@RussH Yeah I have started to look for C-PTSD books and one of the ones that I'm gonna try out is "Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Triving: A guide and map from recovering from childhood trauma" by Pete Walker. I didn't suffer from childhood trauma, but the reviews said that the book has a lot of good coping tips so I think it'll be worth trying. Has anyone read this one?

@Beachlife09 Books on C-PTSD will be useful, but keep in mind that complex trauma and C-PTSD are two different things.
Complex trauma is trauma sustained over a period of time; much like prisoner of wars, where C-PTSD, although not an officially recognized as a disorder, is what people who have endured complex trauma may be suffering from.

Well I feel stupid. Thank you for clearing that up for me! Okay, so now I'll go look for complex trauma books. Sorry

I can't stand Pete Walker. Probably one of those 180degree differences things that a lot of us fall into, although possibly the different perspective from childhood trauma vs adulthood trauma. Either way, dude seriously creeps me out, and most of his suggestions are less than helpful.

Lots of people love & adore him / there's almost like a cult-movie-following. Just my opinion, since you asked; he rubs my fur completely the wrong way. I'm a big fan of empiracle testing, however. Since you already have some of his materials, I'd read through & see if he helps. If so, awesome! If not, or you feel squidgy & icky? You're not alone.

being no one going nowhere . If you get it just thumb through it first . As many times i have gone through it i have never read it from front to back . Check amazon for a reference .
Stay positive .

Healing from Trauma: A Survivor's Guide to Understanding Your Symptoms and Reclaiming Your Life, by Jasmin Lee Cori
This is a general (very good) book on PTSD. The author is a therapist who suffered with PTSD for many years. She intentionally does not give specific examples because she says that it often times is a trigger. Instead she helps you "Understand trauma and its devastating impacts Identify symptoms of trauma (dissociation, numbing, etc.) and common mental health problems that stem from trauma Manage traumatic reactions and memories Create a more balanced life that supports your recovery Choose appropriate interventions (therapies, self-help groups, medications and alternatives) Recognize how far you’ve come in your healing and what you need to keep growing Complete with exercises, healing stories, points to remember, and resources, this is a perfect companion for anyone seeking to reclaim their life from the devastating impacts of trauma."

It has been helpful for me.
