I was wondering how to begin this.

I had only seen the headline announcing the death of a senior figure from the British and later the EU establishments.

How to phrase it that there were, errrrr "allegations" about him, that had circulated widely in the unofficial media, but never seemed to appear in the lamestream?

The news is trending on Yahoo, and the snippets from the "official" news sites are thankfully all now mentioning the "allegations".

Hugs  and kind thoughts to his victims, whatever feelings they are having now and over the next days, weeks and months.

I may be reading too much into this, but it is interesting that Margaret Thatcher's father is supposed to have harrassed female employees in his grocers shop in Grantham. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/thatchers-dad-mayor-preacher-groper-1257249.html

Was she somehow drawn to associate with abusive men?

If her intelligence agencies are as good as they are supposed to be - surely she would have known.

Is it just me or was that an extremely poorly written article? Its hard to put any stock in a story that has all of those sensationalist links around the page.

Because of who he was:
You see to me that is not good enough, and of course you are right @sun seeker, there is nothing that those young women could have done, maybe even her parents weren't in a position to do anything, but not everyone was in that position. There would have been people who knew but chose not to act.

Maybe there needs to be a bigger discussion about this so as to get people in the frame of mind, that if everyone is aware of someone then people need to band together to bring it to the attention of the authorities.

Of course it isn't good enough. I was answering your question literally, though I realize you meant it more rhetorically. Literally, the reason why high-profile people are often not brought to justice is because of who they are. I don't know about this case in particular, mind you, or how accurate anything being said about him is, but it happens more often than you'd think. There is a circle in the highest echelons that protects its own, and can include elements of those very same authorities that are supposed to protect the public. For an example of how it works, look up the case of Hollie Greig, a woman from Scotland with Down's Syndrome who as a child was abused by a pedophile ring including several prominent people in that country, and how hard it has been for her and her supporters to even get the case brought to trial.
