Panicing Over Drivers License Experation.

I can't get a new driver licenses in my new state without a birth certificate. Mine was lost years ago... Here is the thing, I don't know where I was born exactly. I don't know how to obtain it without knowing where i was born.

There is no one living that would have that knowledge except for my grandmother who wouldn't tell me if her life depended on it. She would either make me beg and plead, tell her how much I liked being sexually assaulted and then still tell me no, or claim to have no clue who I was. More often than not nowadays she truly doesn't seem to know who I am, and if she does it is with 10 fold cruelness. Dementia I guess.

The birth certificate thing is also a trigger for me because it has my former legal last name. One that even as a kid caused so much grief it was never used. My moms maiden name was used instead.

So, I don't know what to do and my licenses expires in four days and my car is all I really have right now. Not to mention I have have an SSI review on my birthday. I can't even function enough to shower or do anything right now let alone take care of business.

Hire a lawyer to do the work for you. It will cost $$ but at the same time you're saving your sanity. A decent lawyer will understand your predicament and work with you. You can give him your birth name, birth date, and possible states of birth to start with. Private investigators can uncover anything, so maybe hire a PI? Just a few thoughts.

Don't they give you another option?
A passport, I don't have one and would need a birth certificate to obtain one.

@Solara I don't have any money. I get $516 a month and that may be taken from me on my birthday, because I don't have the documentation to prove I am unable to work as well as my ability to drive. I have 4 days left. Otherwise I would love too.

I'm sorry your state is such a pain in the behind. I know in mine, there are three options - the passport, the birth certificate and SS card, or the three pieces of mail, pay stub, and SS card.

I hate to say 'drive on an expired license', but I know I did for about 6 months; just completely missed that it had gone out.

I do think that there's a kind of waiver you can get - because sometimes people (like you) cannot obtain their birth records. But I believe it's more records...early school records, stuff like that. I'll keep thinking...

If you already had your drivers license then they would have a copy of your birth certificate on file wouldn't they? Is it possible (it may not be) to talk to someone as Ms Spock suggests and have then supply you with the information? I know I went through nightmares myself with birth certificates and licensing. Part of it was my extreme fear of someone knowing where I lived, another part was filling out paperwork, and another I think was actually not wanting to be alive believe it or not. Not sure if any of that plays in but once I got it done I felt much, much better. Maybe once you get it sorted, keep photocopies of all information, just in case it is lost again.

My state requires Birth certificate or passport AND SS card AND proof of address such as utility bill. It is the 'ands' that are the problem.

@Ms Spock I will call tomorrow, thanks for mentioning it because simple stuff like that eludes me because my brains freezes up. I just wish the stupid anxiety didn't make it so hard to do such a simple thing like pick of the phone. Or even think to do so.

Is there a main registry house?....I'm in UK and know it has been done here by contacting the registry house with date of birth, full name, and parents names. Normally takes a week max here, from day of phoning up and ordering. Maybe if you go there in person you could get it there and then.

That is why we are all here @Fadeaway. To give a hand from time to time.

So my suggestion would be to ring up:

Explain you don't have a copy of your birth certificate and your license is up in four daysv for up to three months as you don't know where to even start to get your certificate, if they offer two weeks do take it, you can possibly apply for an extension again. The main thing is to get through the next week.
Ask is there is an exemption or somesuch to give you an extension.
If they so no ask to speak to their superviser.
Also explain that you are very ill at this time and would there be an advocate for you to contact?
Also ask if there is an appeals process?

Just brain storming some ideas.

Good luck.

Write it down before you get on the phone so you don't forget.

@shimmerz. It is because it is a different state than my current license is in. If i was able to get to my home state right now, it would just be a simple renewal like it has always been. What you say makes perfect sense. My situation is different but I could see that easily being a problem.
