Caffeine?

excedrin tension headache (only the tension one worked) and it was my miracle drug along with a bunch of water
coincidentally, the reason it works is (most likely) the caffeine. If you're ever stuck without the excedrin, take some acetaminophen (advil tylenol, thank you @FridayJones!), some aspirin, and have a cup of coffee. Not too much of any one of the three. It's a decent substitute.

Slight correction @joeylittle know you know this, just a typo
acetaminophen (paracetamol) = Tylenol
Ibuprofen = Advil or Motrin

Why would it be that only the tension headache ver...

Nope! They all contain slightly different combos.

  • 1998 Excedrin Migraine At the beginning of 1998, the FDA granted clearance to market Excedrin Migraine for the relief of migraine headache pain and associated symptoms. Excedrin Migraine continued the trend of marketing pain products for specific types of pain, becoming the first migraine headache medication available to consumers without a prescription,[6] even though it has identical active ingredients to the regular Excedrin Extra Strength product, 250 mg acetaminophen, 250 mg aspirin and 65 mg caffeine. In fact, upon the product's launch, its advertising slogan was “Excedrin is now Excedrin Migraine,” noting that the two were the same product.
  • 2003 Excedrin Tension Headache Contains 500 mg acetaminophen and 65 mg caffeine.
  • 2005 Excedrin Sinus Headache Contains 325 mg acetaminophen and 5 mg phenylephrine HCl as a decongestant.
  • 2007 Excedrin Back and Body A dual-ingredient formula claiming that it "works two ways—as a pain reliever and a pain blocker right where it hurts". Contains 250 mg acetaminophen, 250 mg aspirin.[7]

Just curious if caffeine can make dissociation worse?

Mine is far worse without caffeine or other stimulants. Also lessens my anxiety. I'm also ADHD, however. Stimulants, while soothing (instead of stimulating), also narrow my thoughts down to manageable levels.

The thing about any mood or mind altering substance? Is that they all affect us differently.

People suffering from anxiety: Foods to eat
Yogurt - allergic
Bananas - allergic
Vegetables - 50-70% chance of alleriy
Wholegrain foods - allergic
Brown Rice - yay something I'm not allergic to
Beans - 50% allergic
Turkey - not allergic
Chicken - allergic
Cottage Cheese - allergic
Fresh Fish -allergic to fresh water but not salt water
Poached Egg - allergic
Tuna - not allergic
Fruit - allergic to 75%
Porridge - allergic
Baked potato - not allergic
Peanut butter -allergic
Garlic - not allergic
Spinach - allergic

Foods to avoid (allergic to all of the below)
Fizzy drinks
Processed food
White bread
Chips
Pastry
Cakes
Caffeine
Sugar
Alcohol
Chocolate
Cheese
Fast Food

Bonus allergies glycerin, yeast...

but on to the question about caffeine... for me it's an anxiety producer if I over indulge... no expresso's for me... I'm a couple cups a day... allergic or not cuz tea for me is worse.

Thanks @FridayJones..so the only difference between the tension and the migraine is that the tension is more acetaminophen and no aspein? Weird. I never would have thought. I guess my body doesn't like asprin..

It's probably more like, your body responds better to more acetaminophen. If you wanted to be your own science experiment, you'd try excedrin migraine plus an additional 250mg tylenol. I don't think 500 acetaminophen+250 aspirin is going to do any damage, but I'm not an MD. I do like turning myself into my own science experiments, though

Not sure if caffeine exacerbates dissociation but I gave it up about 9 months ago because my anxiety was off the scale and I was having panicky episodes and sleeping terribly. I was trying hard to calm my whole system down and having caffeine seemed to be a complete contradiction to what I was trying to achieve.

Sugar has a similar stimulant effect and my therapist has encouraged me to cut down to see whether doing so will impact my mood/symptoms. So I'm going to reduce my intake of obviously very sugary things to see - but I'm not aiming to go hardcore and give up all sugar completely!

As an aside on sugar though - at times of high anxiety, my therapist has suggested taking some sugar (eg drinking some cola or orange juice) as the sugar takes the edge off adrenaline.

The last months have definitely made me more aware of the impact of what I'm putting in my body - in terms of both mental and physical well-being.
