News Why It's So Hard To Talk To White People About Racism

Bill...did you actually blame the government for the collapse of 2008?

Deregulation allowed banks to loan to totally inappropriate people and repackage those loans to investors as extremely low-risk investments.
It was LACK of government oversight that allowed that to happen!

That whole bit of swindle was brought to you entirely via the private American banking industry.

Deregulation allowed banks to loan to totally inappropriate people

No bank would loan money to anyone they thought was a risk. The Community Reinvestment Act required a certain percentage be made to low income people or people with high risk.

That was the catalyst. Social engineering at it's finest.

I forgot I can't put links in. Google Forbes Magazine 07/18/2008 The Government did it.

Acorn with Obama as lead attorney sued Citibank for not making such risky loans. Acorn won.

The problem with the concept of white privilege is that it's too generalized. In essence, it's a blanket statement. In this case, it's about a race. Something no one has control over. No one can chose the race they are born with. It does not take into account each individual's entire life's experiences. It assumes everyone has had the same set of experience. If people don't have the same set of experience, as reality points out, the concept itself becomes meaningless. As with fluid definitions, it also makes the whole thing meaningless. If there's an attempt to use one thing to explain everything, it explains nothing.

Worse yet, if someone's valid point/argument is shut down using the white privilege reason, the white privilege concept goes from a blanket statement to an ad hominem, which is called the Genetic Fallacy. It's fallacious, because it doesn't attempt to refute the argument. It's instead an attack on the person, without an attempt to address the merits of their argument.

I don't think pointing out dynamics is standardizing 'everyone's' experience.

It's actually helping determine how each different experience shapes us. As cultures, nations, groups living within both, and individuals

Pointing out privileges isn't an attack. It's pointing out 'I have to do this and that for things you have easier access to'.

It's pointing accessibility, and at times snarkily so, because humor helps to cope with the unbearable; that isn't weaponizing humor, that's focusing on own survival and well being, psychologically and else.

@Bill Dickerson ,
Say with whiteness? It isn't saying everyone white will have this or that experience.

There's shades going on, there's colorism going on, there's nationalisms interfering with how people view 'white' on its own, who's 'white' in Europe is not 'white' in the US and 'white' in both Asia and Africa are different if one speaks local languages and dialects and follows the cultural clues, much similar to other races, 'far I know of.

To discuss what things mean doesn't take away from anyone's lives.

It helps us come in terms with these experiences, & make them more relatable.

Lets have a look.

You're complaining about LGBT+ & folk of color scholarships that were unavailable to you, while completely ignoring people of color & sexual minority people get tossed out of schools, jobs, and killed without society as much as batting an eyelash daily, on a much larger scope.

All this privilege talk isn't saying you've got it easy because you're of the privileged group.

It's saying you've got it easier in this / that regard just because you're not that other group.

That doesn't mean your life's cherries and sunshine. But it means there's not gonna be raining cats and dogs on you just because you happen to be the wrong color and love the wrong guy. It's going to be for other reasons.

Lets cut this into two parts. First part, being you telling Spekx that he was complaining.

Pointing out the privilege that LGTB+ and people who aren’t white get in the form of scholarships while accusing Spekx of complaining is a shaming tactic (which btw is a tactic also used on people of the LGTB+ community). He wasn’t complaining. He made a valid point that you drove through the mud by throwing the completely off topic extreme situation of people of sexual minorities. That what he experienced means nothing because he wasn't thinking of others!

Now with the second part about all this privilege talk. These two sentences cancel each other out. It’s word nullification: this isn't saying/It's saying because you are/you're not. In certain things, the person has it easy compared to others, which means they've got it easier than others in certain things. You’ve not clarified anything. You’ve cemented that all this privilege talk is saying white people got it easy.

No one’s life is cherries and sunshines. Telling a person their point is invalid because their version of raining cats and dogs is because of other reasons is not only complete and utter crap, it’s proof that pointing out privileges is an attack. Because Spekx can’t become gay, or black, to have access to those scholarships. These aren't choices but damn you make it look like they are, because he doesn't qualify and has to do this or do that, so therefore shouldn't talk.

Every single adult human being feels racism or prejudice toward someone or something. Good or bad; it is a natural human instinct, and thus cannot be avoided. Nobody is 100% accepting and tolerant of everything and everyone on this earth. Nobody

it is a natural human instinct, and thus cannot be avoided.

No, it's not. It's conditioned by socialization. By how you're raised. Same as with other social reactions. Racism isn't needing to drink & eat, it's not instinctual, it's how you learn to think about your self worth and that of others.

Derailing for dummies. You're talking about scholarships as a great injustice, where these very same people can get scholarships elsewhere. I'm talking about people profoundly hurt for just being who they are, in multitude of ways, daily. If you're not getting some damages are not ever the same scope, there really is nothing much I can do in explaining.
