In 1968 his 22-year-old son Donald Trump joined his company Trump Management Co., becoming president in 1974, and renaming it The Trump Organization in 1980. In the mid-1970s he lent his son money, allowing him to go into the real estate business in Manhattan, while Fred stuck to Brooklyn and Queens. "It was good for me," Donald later commented. "You know, being the son of somebody, it could have been competition to me. This way, I got Manhattan all to myself."

Folk icon Woody Guthrie, who from 1950, was a tenant in one of Fred Trump's apartment complexes in Brooklyn, chronicled his disgust with Trump as a landlord, penning lyrics which accused him of stirring up racial hate "in the bloodpot of people's hearts".

Although a millionaire, Trump was known for his frugality, saving unused nails, doing his own extermination work and mixing his own floor cleaners. Nevertheless, he insisted on buying a new navy blue Cadillac every three years, with license plate "FCT". By the time of his death, Trump was estimated to have amassed a fortune worth $250 to $300 million.

In 1973, the US Justice Dept. Civil Rights Division filed a civil rights suit against the Trump organization charging that it refused to rent to black people. The Urban League had sent black and white testers to apply for apartments in Trump-owned complexes; the whites got the apartments, the blacks didn't. According to court records, four superintendents or rental agents reported that applications sent to the central office for acceptance or rejection were coded by race. A 1979 Village Voice article quoted a rental agent who said Trump instructed him not to rent to black people and to encourage existing black tenants to leave. In 1975, a consent decree described by the head of DOJ’s housing division as "one of the most far-reaching ever negotiated," required Trump to advertise vacancies in minority papers and list vacancies with the Urban League. The Justice Department subsequently complained that continuing "racially discriminatory conduct by Trump agents has occurred with such frequency that it has created a substantial impediment to the full enjoyment of equal opportunity."

"Questions that need an answer: Why is Donald Trump aware of what white supremacists are tweeting about him? Why is he following what white supremacists are saying about him? Why is he retweeting them? Why is he retweeting the white supremacists this freaking much? Sure, we all know he has a huge ego, really huge. But during this same time period, several prominent evangelical and business leaders endorsed him. Racism is sadly alive and well, but the white supremacy vote is not that big. The evangelical vote is much bigger. He did not retweet other leaders saying nice things about him nearly as much as he did the white supremacists. #thinkbeforeyouvote #keepyoureyesopen"

Generally feeling really hopeless about my country not because of Donald Trump, but because if there was no Donald Trump, there would be someone else who would fulfill the cries for a strongman, a king, at all costs. It never ends well and I am wanting to scream "Wake the f*ck up, personality cults are dangerous."

In other people-become-blind-when-hooked-into-a personality cult news, Anne Frank's stepsister says Donald Trump is acting like Hitler did before WW2... and ya know, killing 6 million people. Trump's popularity simply keeps rising. The masses generally did not expect Hitler would kill 6 million Jews when they elected him into office. The masses generally do not expect this from Donald.

They just wanted solutions to pressing economic issues.

Thanks for letting me vent for a moment, once again. I can't believe I am realistically comparing an American presidential candidate to Hitler. History, stop repeating yourself!

I see this kind of hate and wonder if I've been living in fantasyland my whole life. Is this hatred rampant? I can't make heads or tails of it either way. I mean I knew hatred was out there, I just haven't seen it to THIS level, brought out in this round of elections.

I hope people remember----the mentally ill were a marked group of people under the Nazi regime. If Trump comes into power, will he care about any of us? Nope. He's already put down Mexicans and women and Muslims and other groups.....

I don't mean to spread paranoia, but at the same time, it is indeed shaping up to be a superiority/inferiority dynamic. You can only guess where the mentally ill would fit into this.

Thanks, Hodge. I remember watching that awhile ago now that you mention it. I guess my mind just doesn't want to store all of that Donald Trump hatred. It was disgusting how he mocked....MOCKED that reporter, making motions that 5 year old children are taught not to do.

I just feel so disgusted. I deactivated my Facebook account awhile ago because it was such a negative environment, but I half-way feel like re-activating it and performing a social experiment of sorts by making a post telling Donald Trump supporters to un-friend me. I hate to sound like I'm going to extremes, but I don't want to be associated with anyone who actively or passively (which can be even worse!) supports such hate. I know that others can put aside political differences with their friends, but I'm past such a point. Hatred in any way, shape, or form; active or passive simply does not fly with me.
