Hey all. I wanted to post this talk like five million years ago when it first came out, but I kept forgetting again and again. I even made a thread once, but it got lost before I posted it, so here I am, five million years later.

Jane McGonigal did this awesome Ted Talk after developing a game to get her Super Better following TBI that basically involved a ton of PTSD symptoms plus some physical stuff. Watch it! It's great!

Okay, now that I've got that out of the way. Today someone told me it was time to get back to basics (*cough* @The Albatross *cough). I agree. I need to commit to my healing and progress in small, achievable ways that will aid in the stuff I find impossible and overwhelming.

So, I decided it was about time to get Super Better. Come get Super Better with me and be one of my allies in the game. My username is the same, and my secret identity is Merlin.

Let's get Super Better!

I'm really enjoying Super Better. I employed a power-up yesterday that resulted in the store clerk scanning her ID to give me a 10% discount, which was an excellent and motivating perk.

I am currently listed as "battling anxiety to be more present." In addition to the stock "bad guys" I was given, I added "dissociation," "The Night Mare," and "Snooze Fest" (hypersomnia).

The whole idea behind Super Better is that one can harness the addictive quality of quest-and-achievement-based games to motivate people to make changes in their lives, and I have to say, I think it works well, especially for someone like me, who is easily game-addicted. Completing quests unlocks new quests, which is in itself motivating, because I love to see what new challenges I'm presented with. Plus, there are things that give you various resiliency points (physical, emotional, mental, social) that I already do in day-to-day life, and ticking those off (like drinking a glass of water) feels a bit like an extra pat on the back for just doing how I do.

I'm really enjoying the "Being Awesome" power pack I loaded. It's all about self-acceptance and self-compassion, something I think I need to work on if I want to reach my epic win of "being present." I'm hoping I can reach my goal in six weeks, which is apparently an ideal time frame for Super Better goals.

I hope some of you join me in getting Super Better. It really is fun and informative, and it's not time-consuming at all. Some of the quests for social connectivity seem sort of silly, like pointing out a similarity between yourself and someone else, and yet those things lead to really heartening interactions. The very best side effect for me is that just playing Super Better forces me to be more present, because I am on the look out for opportunities to complete quests or score power-ups against my bad guys.

@Simply Simon how long is it? Its only showing me how long im into it but not how long total it is. I can listen to it on lunch today at work but i like to make notes too; something I can apply to my life. Being someone that has watched it, would this be 'skipping ahead' of the DMT workbook that im just starting or would you think this would add to that? Sorry for asking so many questions, im trying to work myself through this stuff but dont wanna go too fast or do too many things at once, tends to confuse me is all.

I like Berne Brown too. She was on a TED Talk and on a few of Oprah's shows.

I assume you gals aren't talking about dimethyltryptamine...

Haha! I had to google that and so no, no "the most hardcore psychedelic drug known to man" for me! Nope talking about this new book my therapist had me buy (got it yesterday):

Dead Link Removed

Books! :wtf: Not that it isnt good, but being dyslexic, books are frustrating and its causing more of an emotional storm for some reason but still pushing on. I had to stop on page 10...had to go to bed...
