Yes, I guess so.

And I’m not sure what to make of that. On the one hand it’s a bit, shrug, that’s just how it was then... On the other hand, that feels like a poor excuse.

I think one of the important things our T can do for us is show us both sides of the story. To get away from that black and white thinking that people are either all good or all bad.

Yes, I think this is a good point.

In which case...I can still say that my mum’s a good person while at the same time I can feel that she maybe didn’t act in an ideal way in this situation...because of the time, the cultural climate, because she didn’t feel empowered to advocate for herself let alone anyone else. And, as a result, things didn’t end up too good for me. And that’s unfortunate rather than it being anyone’s fault.
