New Here
Have a friend who is a retired K-9 trainer for the local county sheriff. He had one of his deputies die in his arms which resulted in him retiring. To add to that he volunteered to deploy to Iraq as a police officer for a year early in the war. I think, in 2003 when it was the worst. He is having great difficulties with his experiences from Iraq. I gave him the business card to my therapist. Would this forum be a good place for him to come to? He wasn't a soldier in Iraq but he went there as a police volunteer and saw some shit he's having difficulty with. If this is not the right forum for him, can someone tell me which forum would best suit him? I love to help others with this problem. It gives me a sense of satisfaction since I was at the end of my rope before finally getting help myself. It's like the noose was around my neck and I was standing on the cinder block. Now I'm pulling myself up to get enough slack to get my head out. Each time I help someone else i'm able to put one hand over the other and get just a little more slack in the rope. Sorry about the graphics, I now know I can get the noose off since I'm finally heading in the right direction and have a better understanding. Help me, help this friend out.
Thanks,
Andrew

Andrew,

Personally I would say yes as some service personnel see combat, deploy to military war zones, take part in training which conditions their minds. This would be one for Anthony as we had to draw a line as to who was allowed.
I will let Anthony know.

With regards to helping people, that is why I am still on this forum mate. I get satisfaction by just helping one person. It gives me a warm and fuzzy and makes me real worthy. So I understand your graphics.

Cheers

Andrew, I just got off the phone to Anthony. This is the problem.

Over the years Anthony we have had all types of people trying to integrate themselves into this forum. For example, the reporter or journalist who served in a combat zone and even protected himself with a rifle.
We have all types of crackpots who compare their PTSD to combat veterans. We even had the spouses/partners/supporters etc allowed on here for a while, but it just did not work.
In a way we all made the rule and agreed that this forum is for service personnel who were in combat.

So in answer to your question, Anthony has said no and directed him to the sister site www.ptsdforum.org

If you want you could always ask Anthony, but I don't think he will change his mind.

Its nice for you to want to help people mate.

Whilst I understand everything you have said, that is what PTSD Forum caters for... this forum is purely for veterans only, which means military training and deployment with the military active service operations / UN missions, etc.
