Please, stop feeling ashamed, because you're "not even combat vets".
That wasn't quite what I meant by that post.
Though I can absolutely see how it could be interpreted that way. The comparison I was making, was that I share the symptoms of Hyperarousal and exaggerated startle response even though I wasn't in a traumatic incident that involved sudden loud noises, such as gunfire and explosions.

While you are quite correct in that I hold a fair bit of shame regarding this disorder, this is not the reason why.

Sorry for the confusion @TreeHugger. I should have been clearer about the context of what I wrote.

@TreeHugger: I did not read most of @PartTimeWarriorLover's posts but I think you might be a bit harsh. There is nothing wrong with idealizing your man. Many a man loves that. There is also nothing wrong with making a bit fun of your man as long as BOTH enjoy it. Maybe her sufferer enjoyed it, maybe he laughed when he realized it was a pleasant surprise.

BTW mine sometimes loves surprises. Depending how he is feeling.

I don't think anyone on this particular thread made any reference to combat PTSD being "worse" or "more deserving" than any other kind of PTSD.

I think @PartTimeWarriorLover was commenting on her particular vet and thinking his dislike of surprises might be caused by a "startle" response to contact (in the military sense of contact with the enemy). Some sufferers pointed out to her that they too dislike surprises and their PTSD is not combat related. I didn't read shame into their comments at all.

I know a lot of civilian sufferers feel people understand combat PTSD better than PTSD caused by other trauma. I've had people tell me that my vet chose to be a soldier so he "can't complain as he must have known he'd get PTSD". So it's not necessarily the case that people are more sympathetic or understanding.

@tree hugger - I'm sorry you feel this way but I think your reaction to this particular thread is more about how you are feeling than what people said here. Hugs if you accept them.

What about 200 miles?
