A Smile...What Makes It For You?

I am so very glad to have started this thread, it has shown to me that even in my time of pain I could still find something in just a moment....(that wasn't meant to sound quite the way it did!!).
It has also given me lots of further little moments that have made me smile. I feel that I have shared in something good here and that tickles me.

Thankyou Kaydee for all your encouagement, I am really so glad that you like it, I have been very encouraged by so much written here, and so much else has come out of it for me.

I cried long and hard last night through sheer relief and exhaustion, which came to me when someone kindly said something, and through this thread more has come to me than I could have hoped for.

I have smiled more these last few weeks than maybe in years, I have cried much also, more in years on that front too. I believe that both these things are cathartic and healing, and my tears last night began in a smile that was within me.

What makes me smile right now...my dog snoring- hah!!! (my cat is snuggled into her, like the photo but the cat is bigger now)and he is looking a little worried, am smiling.

I am just starting to learn about DBT (Dialetical Behaviour Therapy), like CBT but respects your feelings.

It talks about doing a half-smaile. A smile were you aim to smile so that just the corners of your mouth lift up. Not a forced, cheesy grin smile but a gentle smile. The trick is to make sure your mouth is turned up. They say it is difficult to hold a bad thought whilst holding this pose. If negative feelings do start to creep in, just check you haven't dropped the smile

I smile more now, I smile when someone acknowledges me, as they reflect my existence, I am choosing to perceive the acknowledgement as acceptance.

Yesterday I accepted help.

The more I hear or see that I exist, the more I realize that I have always had that right, I did not know it, so a smile means more to me than before, now I'm looking to create balance for myself.

To "Quote thing" someones comment, lower right hand side you will see three things
(Quote) paper with quill
( " ) paper with " marks
Paper with quill

Click on the first one... ( to keep everything the same OR you can erase the parts you dont want)
Type whatever it is you wish to say like you would a regular post
Then post it

That is soo cool Mayhem, I have tried to figure how to explain, and I think that part of my brain has not been working so good because when I was reading what you had written I still wasn't sure...took me ages then and I wouldn't mind but I do it already !!!! and still sturglle so bad with it. I am such a dufus-good grief!!!

loving the woof also...I so get that...my brain needs to slow down I think, soo woof here also. brilliant...just one word and it says it all for me....


And Thankyou Mayhem for all you have shared with me here on this forum, you have always brought a smile to my face, you have such great understanding and bring a real clarity to me and show me how I can maybe have some clarity myself, in both what I do and my thinking. I am really trying to implement it and I know it will come at some point-hoping so, I think it is begining to, so difficult for me trying to find that way to explain what happens so that someone else will be able to find it also. My brain hurts and is tired I think some rest might help perhaps. Thankyou Mayhem so much... :rolleyes:

These are such small steps that I am taking Mayhem but amazing ones, and I am so grateful for your friendship, you encourage me soo much in so many different ways ...thankyou.

You know I have to quote that, because this word makes me smile in itself, and that you have used it here I couldn't stop smiling. I used to have this cartoon strip pinned up just one from I can't remember the name of the mag -biker mag really old I must have had that clipping for over 25 years, I don't have it anymore but if I can get drawing again, I will try to "copy" it to share, because it was just soo funny....and I so know what the dog meant by the woof....yeah I kow what this is sounding like...!!

Just that woof there cross's so many language barieers...brilliant. And woof itself is such a beautifully simple word in itself an can say so much in so many different ways. Am laughing that maybe I will actually start doing this instead of all my long stuff. Because it works for me...I just would hope that someone else would get it and worry just in case they didnt...actually I dont think it is enough letters to be able to post it and nothing else...maybe woof woof?

Ok and now I really know I need to step back and chill, before I maybe crash-Good grief charlie brown...!!

I just thought of something else that makes Me smile.


Odd names for Our animals friends. Here are a few that we had in the past.

Rif raf (cat)
Dodger (cat)
Jinx (cat)
Banshee (cat)
B.J. (dog)
When she was a pup she tried to put her paws up on people, guys mostly, her aim was off, and she would end up hitting them in the errrrrr jewels. B.J. stood for Ball Jumper.


Last but not least.

ARF (cat)
My nephew wanted to pet the cat, so he asked where she was, we said outside, so He goes to the door opens it and then says " whats her name?" We said " arf "

So he here is standing by the front door, yelling out " arf arf arf arf arf" We stated laughing, then it dawned on Him what He was doing, and then He started laughing. Even to this day we still laugh about Him calling that cat.

I was given a copy of A Cat's Little Instruction Book (its 15 years old now but still makes me smile - I am a tiger/cat at heart)

Some Instructions are

Remember - meow and the world meows with you;hiss and you hiss alone

No matter how old you are, never be afraid to express the kitten within

Don't cry over spilt milk - lap it up instead

When depressed or confused, try lying on your back with your legs in the air; sometimes the world just looks better upside-down.

my dog does the same thing kaydee, drops, rolls on her back, paws up and then kind of back-scratchy rolling around - that "funny five minutes" thing...makes the world look better just seeing someone else rolling around on their back....and then watching the world go by-looks bliss!....and when the cat does it too...look out!!! hah!!
