After Second Interview You Hear Nothing...what Would Be Your Thoughts

I had a phone interview and then I was asked to go for a second interview for a job I wanted.

I thought the second interview went really well and I passed the manual part with flying colours.
At the end of the interview I was told I would hear from them early next week (this week).
It is now Sunday and I've heard nothing.

If this was happening to you what would you be thinking?

My first thoughts is that I've been given a bad reference but if I was then surely a simple email saying I was unsuccessful would cost nothing.

Am I panicking over nothing?

I've got another interview tomorrow wish me well.

Don't take it personally. It's more likely that it has nothing to do with you. I've had similar things happen a few times and it usually turned out to be that the top boss either wanted to change certain aspects of the position and wait, or that a person with connections got the job instead. Either way, I doubt it had anything to do with you, and more likely that someone high up wanted to fill the position with someone he/she already knew personally.

Two interviews is a really great thing! They might not have called because it could be they got busy. Rather than worry about why they didn't call, get proactive. I can tell you from experience that employers like it when a candidate calls to check on the job. I would call and inquire if they have made a decision yet. It could just be they chose you for the simple fact you were assertive enough to call back. I wish you good luck x

I wouldn't panic about thinking it must be a bad reference. More likely that they're under-resourced, a key decision-maker is currently away or they've ended up taking more time interviewing others. It could also be that they've offered the job to someone else and that candidate is taking their time to think about it before confirming if they accept the position...if it's this, you don't turn down other good candidates until you have a confirmed yes from the person you've made an offer to first.

If they said they'd let you know, it must be their policy to do so (some places don't so prolonged silence means no!)

As others have said, no harm in getting in touch with them to ask if they've reached a decision if that's something you want to do.

Good luck with it - and with your interview tomorrow.

Thanks for all the replies.
Being a bit paranoid doesn't help the situation.

Before the interviews they were very professional and kept in contact with me via email so I can't see, why after the interview there's nothing.
I too went down the lines that maybe one of the top bosses was on holiday but I got the impression that if that was the case they would've emailed me and told me so.

Just to note it's a small company with just six people working there.

Now to the bit about calling them about the job.
I'm actually scared to. I think on this board people will identify with that.

I've got an interview tomorrow so I'll see how that goes.
It's less pay than the previous job but seems more fun and something I would really want to do.

I've never been a slave to money and refuse to do a job just because it pays well. I'd rather do a less paid fulfilling job.
But at the end of the day I've got bills to pay.

........ I just had a reply and this was the reason why the delay.
He said it was a close thing between me and the other person.

Oh! Well! I've applied for another job today just to keep the wheels turning.

Glad they got back to you. May be a good idea to ask them to keep you in mind for the future...not everyone sticks with a job, for different reasons.

Good luck in looking.

Forgot to say he said he'd be keeping me on file and all goes well and they expand they will let me know.
This is really hopeful as there is only 6 people working there so expansion would be inevitable.

He also said that his reply to me was late as he was waiting for the persons reply on accepting the position.
So maybe the person was in two minds on the offer.

I can hope........so let me. :)
