This is kind of a random post and I wasn't sure where to put it. I don't know if anyone else has read the news about this two-year-old in Orlando being dragged into the water by an alligator, but it's such a horrific story I have literally been sobbing about it all day. I keep checking to see if they've found the boy, I don't know why. It seems like the outcome is already pretty clear. He was attacked last night around 9 pm ... and they still haven't found him. I think everyone knows what that means but secretly I am hoping for a miracle here. This story has gotten me all torn up inside. I can't imagine what the parents are going through right now. It's times like this I just don't want to read the news anymore. (And yes, I know it's not quite the same as a terrorist attack, and the Orlando shooting was horrific as well ... but this specific incident is hugely upsetting to me because I keep imagining the sheer terror that boy must have experienced and the helplessness that his parents must feel)

Yes, I just read about it. It's a horrible tragedy and one as a parent I get so upset about. I don't often allow myself to venture into news when I can help it though sometimes I click on headlines just because. I usually don't do it though because just reading a headline can have me spiraling down into the feelings of terror and despair that often some with news stories. Hugs if you accept them. (Wish I could somehow make them sad faces in this hug case as that seems more appropriate.)

Orlando is my back yard... too much tragic news to come out of central Florida in the last few days, really really sad. First Christina Grimmie was shot and killed in Orlando, then the Pulse nightclub massacre, now this little boy... Orlando is making the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

It's funny, I've worked as a journalist for years so have always had to cover terrible news stories and sift through all the tragic details. And I had gotten used to it and grown numb ... UNTIL I had my own kid, and now it's honestly hard to swallow this stuff. @Changeling We're okay. A doctor came by today to check his weight and he has gained about 100 grams in less than a week. So that's good. He had a fit earlier but seems better now; is digesting food with the help of the meds.

The family in question ignored signs posted at a lake and were "wading". They were from Nebraska (likely weren't aware of the risks about a lake here in Florida)... gators have been being caught and killed last night and through this morning. Every effort is being made by local authorities to bring closure to the family. It was an unfortunate accident and of course the loss of a child is really sad.
