Am I Being A Prude, Or Overly Sensitive?

I don't think that it open the door for abuse. Predators are predators. My girlfriend likes porn more than me! And all the men understand the difference between watching these things and going out and abusing or raping women....Like I said there's no slippery slope.

I hate to say this..... But there was a Law & Order episode about how porn DID indeed influence an underage boy to abuse others!

Ok, so I skipped about 6 pages of this thread..... Argue with me that its ONLY tv, but the fact remains that the world is a VERY different place today. Anyone my age or over (35) pretty much did not have the internet in their home as a child/adolescent/teenager, and if they did, it was a far cry from the internet of today! We watched cheesy pornos that we "borrowed" from our parents or caught some of the soft core porn on late night HBO. VERY different than what kids today can find within 2.5 seconds on google!

So what do you say to underage KIDS watching this stuff and thinking this is the way that sex is supposed to be? WHOA, a whole new spin on it all, right? (Have we only been talking about adults? Sorry, again, skipped 6 pages...) You can't sit here and argue with me that this crap doesn't affect kids and how they view sex, because it DOES!

And in that Law & Order episode, the kid didn't even know he was doing anything wrong because he saw it in a video. Yup, in the absence of knowing what's real, kids DO think that this crap is the right way...

Love this pic..... http://41.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l3nt45hPyn1qzpwi0o1_1280.jpg

I think it says a lot. Disney f*cks up young girls into thinking that prince charming exists. (Uhm, HULLO, the wedding industry wouldn't be this huge if every girl didn't want to grow up and be a princess, even if just for a day....Can you tell that weddings sort of disgust me? Ya, if I ever get married, I'm eloping! I've had that one planned since I was a child....) Porn f*cks up young guys into thinking that every woman wants to be an insatiable whore (just for him). Ok well in my defense....LOL, better not go there!

I'd still like to see some unbiased statistics about this. Then I can go to my friend Jacob and Jess and have them confirm the validity of the statistical methods used.

I have met in my life a few insatiable women...lucky me :) but the majority of the porn I see is just regular sex.
Every woman I was with watched porn.

I'm not quite so sure how you'd be able to test for the influence of porn on abuse? How could you possibly find anything other than a correlation? Impossible to find causation. If anything, it would be self-reported, and we all know how accurate that type of research is! *rolls eyes*

Funny, Ed, I've asked all the guys I've been with about porn. They all said meh, I rather have the real thing...

I agree @Solara there's nothing like the real thing. I use porn when I'm alone, because I have no imagination:P and during group therapy to be an asshole. But I'm certainly not obsessed with it. Mainly something I do when I'm bored and need a release.

Ban Fifty Shades of Grey immediately.

I've come across good solid research that indicates there is no correlation between porn and violence.

Men and women act in porn movies. Why, oh why, is porn seen as an objectification of WOMEN? Why not men? Or women and men? Or sex? Because of the way it is done? Then why not do it differently?

I don't remember the exact quote from Trey Parker's early film Orgazmo, and I can't find it, but it's something like

"Porn objectifies women!"
"What about the men, who are the consumers. Aren't they really the vicitms?"
"Well, I guess porn objectifies men by objectifying women."
"So porn objectifies people."

“The fact that an opinion has been widely held is no evidence whatever that it is not utterly absurd; indeed in view of the silliness of the majority of mankind, a widely spread belief is more likely to be foolish than sensible.” Bertrand Russell

The fact that choice is good in principle doesn't mean there's no such thing as a bad choice.
If you're not in position to deal with the consequences of that 'bad choice' and have no interest in helping people out of where that leads, you better abstain from those judgments, because you're not contributing to anyone's improvement, much less on a social level.

Eventually: who are you to judge someone else's choices when you never had to make those choices, and never had to consider others' well being about those choices? (No, listening to a woes of a person for the argument's sake on the internet doesn't count in my book. When your daily worry for a few years is how to keep people safe on the streets while you're not really 'free' yourself, how to help people out of trafficking, and how to keep kiddies off getting lost in porn industry for eternity.... *then* you get to talk about evils of wrong choices and what not.)
