hi guys so I've been with my therapist for three years now since I was 20 I'm now turning 24 and I feel like I have hit a brick wall in my progress I texted my therapist this week asking him questions about PTSD but he I thought gave me a cold text back even though professional he replied saying he won't answer any of questions unless crises or in session where these questions must be contained within the hour provided although whilst at the beginning of my therapy with him he would happily reply to my texts regarding any questions I had during the week I am not a needy patient and don't bother him and respect boundaries but I am not sure if I was overstepping here I also find it difficult to talk about my sexuality with him and my health condition becajse he is a man but I have been with him for three years I just feel like I got the wrong idea about therapy or I've hit a brick wall with him any help or advice would be grateful thanks

Pauline, most therapists don't like to answer questions outside their 45 - 50 min sessions. My husband who passed away recently was a Marriage Family Therapist and I spent 35 wonderful years with him and learned a lot about his business. If you aren't getting the help you need in session including feeling uncomfortable discussing sexual issues because he is male, you should feel free to find another therapist. I would be completely honest with him in your next session and see where that leads.

i think that it's not about what is said but how he said it. Maybe if he wrote you that he heard your question and will be glad to discuss it next session, you would feel different about it? From what you wrote I felt that he was too "educational" and less empathetic. (Maybe he had a week in which too many clients called him or text him)
