Anybody Else Try The "ptsd Coach" App Yet?

I understand the "PTSD Coach" App was developed with the input of vets with combat related PTSD. I've had it on my Droid for a few weeks now. It's set up to both assess and track symptoms, and has management suggestions based on a 0-10 scale (SUDS Scale?). There's an area for when you need to seek support, and suggestions on where to find it. There is also an area to add pictures that you find comforting, which is a feature that I like. I've added some of my kids and hubby. You can add music too, though I haven't figured out how to do that yet.

Has anybody else tried this yet? I'm not sure exactly how long it's been available, but I think it's relatively new. By the way, it was FREE in the US on my Droid X, if you want to take a look.

Hi ClairBear226,
Yes, I've had it on my phone now for over a month and when I *remember* to use it, it has proven useful. I say *remember* because half the time when I'm triggered, I forget that I have that tool. When I do remember, I generally end up using the mindfulness stuff like breathing etc. The pictures help too. I like how it allows you to track your symptoms over time. I'm about ready to tell my T that I'm using it to see what he has to say - but knowing him and what he's taught me - he would approve. Hope you find it useful as well. Oh, and my trauma is not combat related...

Neither is mine, but so far the only area I've found that seems specifically to address those with combat PTSD is the "Find Support" area, which I think suggested VA resources as one of the options. It also allows you to add phone numbers for support people, though the only one I've added so far has been my hubby.

I can't really "get to it" during a flashback, (I'm lucky I remember to breathe, for pete's sake) but found it helpful during a few anxiety attack-like issues.

Downloading it now.... I'll come back later and let you know what I think about it!

Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, I've had it for a few months too. I absolutely love it. As the other poster stated, sometimes it is hard to remember DURING the anxiety episode/whatever. One of the things I love the most are the self-assessments and ability to choose your own images and songs to relax you. Very cool.

I downloaded it a while back but haven't used it. Might have to go back and take a closer look based on this thread. Thanks guys...

As far as the "find support" section - I just inserted all my "crisis" numbers like my T and the crisis hotline... I also forgot to add that the relaxation one really helps put me to sleep when I'm worked up at night.

And it would be helpful if it had a section that said: "Remember to breathe!!!!"

LOL, think we can claim Angry Birds as a grounding method? Or maybe a way to work off agression? ;) I think we need "Angry Birds: The PTSD Edition". Maybe all the pigs can have that 1000 yard stare, and the birds can have hypervigilance and irritibility issues? Just a thought. :roflmao::):p
