Here is an informative posting on essential oils and PTSD. I hope you find it helpful.

Thank you @shimmerz, so sweet; will check out both sites, appreciate your aromatherapy information. Love scented oils, all things scented. Sound like Ms Spock, so does she! I love @Ms Spock! Had emdr yesterday and now brain drain. Please bear with me. Brain is taking a vacation so to speak. JJ

I bought this kit from Eden's Garden before I got PTSD. It has a mix of oils and they are labeled: joy, meditation, relaxation, amongst others. The citrus based oils are always a pick me up! It is pretty amazing how certain smells trigger the brain to cause a feeling, or mood change.

Greetings

My massage therapist recommend to apply essential oil to my neck cradle before I go to bed and I would sleep sounder.

A few months went by and I ordered unsented sweet almond oil and applied a few drops about 15 minutes before going to bed, boom boom out go the lights, I sheep hard and less dreaming., my physical energy is better..

I do not sell essential oils and am not trying to promote a brand for profit. I bought some Blue Cypress, Peppermint and Ortho Ease from a friend (Young Living is the brand). It works amazing for pain. My husband and I both have chronic pain and this has helped tremendously. He is allergic to all NSAIDs so he cannot take anti-inflammatories such as ibuprophen etc. The oils have been a life saver. We have used panaway as well but the ortho ease is similar and cheaper. The panaway worked really well too but is expensive. I will have to get a diffuser and try it for insomnia and PTSD symptoms. Interesting to read what has helped people on this forum.

@jesse , I have started using peppermint and eucalyptus for my pain. That inflamation pain that meds don't seem to touch.
It relieves that burning and deep ache.
And it smells good! I also use it on my forehead when I have a headache.
Like you, so grateful for the shares on this thread. So much better for us than slamming our bodies with chemicals!

I have heard about so many benefits but haven't invested yet. Working on saving up and I have a friend that sells young living essential oils. I'm going to start out with a kit since it comes with a defuser. I have heard of defuser necklaces but I'm wondering if there is something more for men out there. That is the toughest thing that I have found. All the online classes that I have attended that my friend has taught are 99% women and they all are like I bet my husband would love this. And I feel like the only dude at a baby shower.

I've only used them in an oil burner but love doing that. I put them on just before I meditate, has become a little ritual.
Favourites are Ylang-ylang, Jasmine, Orange & Lavender

Thought it wasn't safe to put them on the skin unless they were diluted? I like the idea of a diffuser necklace but haven't seen any I like as yet.

Does anyone have any suggestions for scents, brands, containers, methodology?

I would like to incorporate a scent along with my safe word when I attempt to connect with my emdr safe place.

It's a secluded body of water where I float on my back under sky.

I was thinking coconut or chlorine. (just had an idea...I always loved that 'Hawaiian tropic' tanning lotion scent. You know that old school brown bottle...man that stuff smells good. I could find it at any store nationwide too for little money...in bulk)

edit: I have a strong smoke reaction related to my major trauma, don't know if that's a consideration.

@MrMoonlight , if you have the energy, you can research which oils you would like and would be most pleasant for you...I use a coconut base, as the oils I use can not be put on the skin directly... they can be put in a diffuser tho...
And I too love the smell of the old school tanning lotion.... bet there is none in the stores right now, but sure would feel 'summery' if that nice odor was in the house...

I like to mix the orange and lavender, or lemon and lavender for my diffuser.... makes the house smell so good !!!

There are so many brands it might get overwhelming... I use the Mannatech brand.... but do invest in the good stuff, which ever brand you choose...not the stuff at Walmart.... you really have to use very little and it goes a long way if you are using it on your body, as I do for pain.. I keep my 'pain oil' in a little spray bottle I found at walmart for 99cents... . So, companies will try to sell all sorts of stuff, but you can find diffusers that don't cost a fortune, and bottles that cost less than a dollar...

Usually the base oil or carrier oil will be a bigger bottle as you use that to mix any of the oils with... hope you find something that you like....

.. if you use a diffuser, there will be a small amount of visible steam that comes out of the top... just giving you a heads up in case that would cause you any problems...

Let us know what you found and how it has helped...
