@DharmaGirl There was nothing about how the therapist works in any of the paperwork, apart from mentioning the no-show fee.
@Justmehere As I have said, I don't seek to do any sort of work over text. I also don't tend to avoid confrontation in sessions and that is not the reason for the texts. I am not avoiding working on something in session by sending a text.
I don't think the football coach comparison is apt. I never had a coach where the relationship was such that anything is up for disagreement regarding what they taught - whether on the field or off. I don't think it's usual for coaches to have clients, and when I said "profession," that is what I was referring to. As for lawyers, that's kind of my point - other professions don't frown upon non face to face contact. Charging for this is certainly a therapist's prerogative.
