Ask a foreigner

People from anywhere, what mundane differences did you find interesting when visiting a foreign country?
I cannot BEAR traveling to the UK from the US, and cannot bliss out enough, hearing English, after leaving France. So much so? I refuse to fly from the US, to UK, ever again. And almost always attempt to enter via the Chunnel.

Quirkiest “normal” thing? Parents leaving infants in strollers outside of shops in the Netherlands specifically, but half of Europe, generally. In the states? People will phone authorities on you for leaving DOGS outside of shops. Infants? You’ll lose your kids. But in half of the EU? A whole little fleet of babies, outside of every decent shop. Waiting on parents to collect them.

In UK is it more embarrassing to say vagina than c*nt?

Might a doctor or other professional say c*nt to refer to a vagina if their patient/client talked about it that way? Like is it pretty much no big deal? Are there any particularly bad words for vagina in UK?

lol, I didn’t realize that c*nt was the other censored word on here.

My other question: how are these terms used in everyday life by people in UK: Britain, Great Britain, United Kingdom, England, English, British. I don’t know how to differentiate. Which are most commonly used in what context and are there any I’m missing?

Hahaha love it.

No, not more embarrassing

Very unlikely indeed I'd say 🤭

It's kind of no big deal yes, in casual situations, depending on what circles you're in maybe, as you say tho, a Dr is extremely unlikely to say it to patients.

i use the word, it's a lot more cuddly in intent here in the uk than in USA. Jokey, can even be a term of endearment lol

I think I tend to say I'm English, and that I live in the UK. Mostly I only used to hear Americans refer to us as Brits.
Don't know if I'm typical or not.

Ps I'm not very up to date on young people's swear words, so don't know about any terrible swear words for female genitals.

Hee, thanks for making me smile

Nope, no medical professional ever will refer to it as c*nt, it’s always vagina.

Depending on the context, it’s sometimes a term of endearment (like ahh ya stupid c*nt), or it’s pretty offensive, (like bucket c*nt). Some circles won’t bat an eye at it, others really hate the term, but it’s no really a big deal.

offensive, (like bucket c*nt)
Is this offensive because it implies that the vagina is huge like a bucket due to lots of sexual intercourse?

Related: is pussy offensive or even used in a similar manner? I remember on “Are You Being Served?” (Thank you 90s PBS!) there was a running joke about all the things Mrs. Slocombe needed to do to/for her beloved pussy (cat).

Obviously both are a load of bollocks and not true or possible, but yea, it’s used to imply that or that the person has had too many kids. It’s kinda like an offensive level up from calling someone a slut?

Pussy isn’t really used all that much. It’s definitely not offensive. It would be more used as in like ‘ahh ya f*cking pussy’ to mean someone was being wimpy/pathetic/chickening out

Are there euphemisms in your country/region for menstruation? Ones I can think of:
Being on the rag
Visiting Aunt Flo (old)

I hear a lot of women say “in my moon time” now as a sort of nice way to say it.
