Because They Haven't

Righto. Something I've picked up on lately, with all the (quite appalling) VA crap, police etc. giving vets a hard time, and general insect authority BS.
Now this is something I've noticed whilst in uniform, and ever since afterwards.
Why do the VA (let's recall what their core purpose is supposed to be), the British Legion, the police, and any other such treat vets as crap as they do?
Because they haven't.
Been there, seen it, or done it. And know what? They hate that. Quite why that should be I'm not sure. But I've sensed it too many times.
Thoughts welcome...

Well, in Canada, the Legion was meant to be the advocate for the Soldier. They are set up just for that. Then Canada went all Peace Keeper on them, and the older Vets turned up thier noses. From the 1960s till about 5 years ago Soldiers were treated like second class citicens by the Legion. Unless you had a campaign star, they didn't want you in thier bar.

So we rebelled. We started forming our own advocacy groups. The United Nations and Nato Veterans Club is spear heading the campaign to get adequate health care for wounded Afghan Vets. Last week things hit the fan here. The Legion anounced that the members of the United Nations and Nato Veterans Club were not entitled to wear Poppies. They also decreed that Legion Members were not allowed to attend our protest rally this week end in Legion Uniforms, and that our literature is not allowed on Legion Property. The Rally? It is to protest the Government Policy that severly wounded veterans of the Afghan War do not have the same entitlements as WW2 Veterans. And they call themselves the Advocacy Group for Veterans.
