One of my dearest mentors, from years ago - ancient history!, something like 20 years ago - got me interested in somatic creative work - he was dealing with a poetics. So this is my background with somatics. It is outdated, I know that much, because I have never heard of the term outside of an artistic sense - till I saw it here.

I am extremely curious about somatic therapy, especially since I do not know it in a straightforward therapeutic way. All I get when I search are references to writing, not to therapy or PTSD treatment.
I think my search engine automatically knows to point me towards creative writing!

Can anyone tell me how / where and also when they first came across the idea of somatic therapy? Do you work on your own, or with a trained therapist? Are there any "standard" books or research online, that I am missing? I do think creativity, art, expressing oneself can be vital things in dealing with PTSD... but I'm not finding this connection and morph into a therapeutic model.

I would love to hear about any and all, good and bad, medical and creative experiences in a somatic frame of reference. I am fascinated..... Anyone? Short experience, lengthy book, online reference, any knowledge on somatics is welcome. Thank you so much in advance!

ETA: I have looked through some of the threads here, about somatic therapy, but I'm wondering if someone who is really knowledgeable about this topic might point me towards specific threads that might be helpful. thanks again!

There isn’t many threads on this still. Did you end up trying it out at all? I started mine a few weeks ago and had one really odd experience. I’ve posted on here but haven’t gotten an responses so I’m thinking it’s a fairly new type of therapy or not often used?
