At the moment, I can only concentrate and enjoy books which have a story. They don't have to be fiction but non fiction written in the style of Maos Last Dancer is about all I can deal with.

What does "Hind" mean?

Hind is another word for deer.

My all time favorite book is The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom. It is the story of a Dutch family whose business is watchmaking. Corrie writes in such a lovely way that there are tiny hints to what may come in the future. The Germans invade Holland. The rest of the story is about how they helped hide Jewish people. Of course eventually, they were caught. I don't want to give the story away except to say it is quite beautiful even in their times of suffering. I reread it almost every year. It is so uplifting.

Ok - I have to ask - and as Amethist started it I feel a bit better!!! Am I the only one surprised that Kindle books aren't generally - and significantly - cheaper than actual books? I got mine for my birthday and not one book that I have wanted to download as been any cheaper!!! I just presumed that because there were no printing or shipping costs that the downloads would be less.

The best one I have found is a set of three books by Rory Clarke. £4.99 for the three from The Book People (discount book catalogue / website in the UK) and £6.99 each on the Kindle :(

I'm surprised as well. Unless it is an author who I really like or want to read eg forum book club books, I download free books from the Amazon site.

The added bonus with those is that I am discovering a whole new world of new authors.

I have to admit I have paid for a few books, but only after I have read a free one and then the follow ons are not free. Usually less than £2 sterling though.

I have quite a few waiting to be read that were free to download.

Am I shocked? No... not even close. Digital music and movies costs more than physical products. You can buy a DVD cheaper after two weeks on the shelf, than you could its digital version from iTunes or other such online retailer, two weeks after release. One they want to get rid off from their shelves for the next latest thing, thus discounting. The other, it isn't going anywhere, and if you want the digital original version without loss of quality, then you will pay the price eventually.

Most ebook prices are set by authors directly, bypassing Amazon and other companies. They pay a small commission to such providers per sale for the use of their website traffic, though otherwise it is a way to maximise their profits from an otherwise dwindling book industry. People just aren't reading as much, let alone wanting physical books... so instead they buy less, yet buy digital.

If you aren't specific about the author to be read, you can typically find a lot of very cheap digital books within a genre you like reading. Even popular authors often offer one of their books for a couple of dollars for brief periods, because it gets you sucked into a series in which you then buy further books in the series at full price. If you treat it like the bargain bin at the bookstore, then you can buy plenty of really cheap digital books, just like you can plenty of cheap physical books they want to move from their physical stock in your local bookstore.

Like stated above, you also have to check the free books near daily, because you can download them to your cloud and read them a year later if you want... getting a paid book freely if you catch it at that brief moment they run the special.

Has anyone read "Suspect" by Robert Crais? It involved a main character that is a cop with PTS working with a Marine K9 unit dog with PTSD
