Cavoodle Snow Day

We took our puppies to the snow last weekend, Dinner Plain in Victoria. First time for them in the snow... they had a blast. Lily was not as happy about it as Mia was... Mia is just fun... she just likes everything and anything fun.

No need to tell us who is who, your tan one is clearly expressing her dislike for snow.

I live in a place where we get a lot of snow. My two have the same feelings about the snow, one loves it and the other looks at me to say, nope, put a potty pad down because this is not happening. He does go outside but not without a lot of coaxing, and a warm hoodie.

Love it!!

As a totally inconsequential “yay”?? Thaaaank you for buying real jackets, instead of the human cutesy kind. I’d expect nothing less from you & N, but it’s always happy to see.

They had little boots too, but neither would keep them on. Friggin hilarious things. Bright Pink. This was Nicolette trying to get them to wear it ahead of time. Lasted minutes and they shook them off.

lol, the only time I’ve ever gotten dogs to wear footwear is the desert/hot asphalt. (Failing that athletic/medical/fabric tape on pads) They love their toenails & footspread too much in the snow!

Yeah I tried those too because my condo salts enough for three snow storms. Mine refused to walk. So we broom a section and walk in the snow, my two weigh so little they can walk on the top crmost of the time.

@Friday what do you mean cutesy? My little guy prefers hoodies because they cover him better. I hate the coats with arm holes as big as my pups heads, I always think, what’s the point. My one pup loves the pajama both front and back legs.
Edit: weird the top part of the original post was erased, so odd it came back.

I want to get boots for my pup but I heard it’s a real struggle to train them to wear them. There’s a kind of boot that’s a legging which has a cinch on their back so they can’t shake them off but they look so silly in them like David Bowie in Labyrinth!

@Charbella i have tried all kinds of jackets and Pup prefers the fit of hoodies as well. He has one poofie jacket but it’s more like a harness/cape in fit.

Protective clothing for 2legged upright walking mammals &/vs protective clothing for 4legged prone walking mammals.

They’ve been tested/trialed extensively (especially for horses & dogs, as those are still working animals in many parts of the world, and million dollar animals in other; llamas have their own blankets that grow off of them) and the highest rate of survival, overall health, & injury avoidance? Are variations on the 3,000+ year old “horse blanket” style. Core wraps, with head & legs free. Unless they’re fire scouts. In which case, it’s in reverse; reflective bellies & legs.

The “sleeves” are one of the more dangerous aspects, of “cutesy” bipedal clothes on 4legged creatures clothes... causing ripped tendons, entanglements/trapped limbs/suffocation, &/or soaking up moisture causing frost burn & frost bite & hypothermia.. If you need to keep 4 foot’s legs warm? Wrap them individually with real woolen fleece & tape, and keep supervised to change if/when they get wet. But, for the most part (down to about -20, even colder for cold weather adaptations) the physiology of the animal themselves protects them from leg, cold, as long as you can keep their core warm.

Does your pup really wear 4 sleeved pajamas out in below freezing temperatures? Soaking up melted snow & mud? That’s really not safe. Even in just pouring rain, it’s creating a lot of drag on a tendon system that’s designed to carry weight from the completely opposite direction.

I mean, indoors, in a temp controlled/supervised/manicured environment? No worries. Real weather? Go for what’s species specific.

Species specific doesn’t matter when it’s purely decorative/cutesy. My cat has a 6’ long dragon curled around his bed. But out in real weather? Humans will lose feet & hands, with only something wrapped around their backs. Dogs will lose legs, with weight dragging cold sponge sleeves. And no cat on the planet needs a 6’ long dragon. 🐉 There are things we do at home, and things we do adventuring. That look different. For good reason.

Yes he does but also, he hates to be outside so it’s not like he’s out long enough to get wet. He also owns several hoodies and if he does get wet, he gets a new one. I don’t think it’s below freezing often here. Just above. I have two dogs under 10 lbs. outside is not their favorite in the winter. The one who likes it, also hates any warm weather gear.

I feel like the wrap ones you speak of are useless at keeping them warm, I do use as an over their hoodie if we will be out a lot though. My littlest one in the ones I have now and the ones I had before (have had two for quite awhile but two different pairs of small dogs) shiver if I don’t bundle them enough. The two closer to 10 never cared much for anything.
