Change Of Meds

Afternoon all,

I was on sertraline for 6 weeks, made my guts terrible throughout and if anything I noticed a slightly deeper depression. Was at the docs today, now on Duloxetine (cymbalta) starting on 30mg.

So I'm starting again, again! I'm doing my research about the med now, just wondered if anyone has a story about their personal experience with it? It does feel a bit deflating to start again. Also, how many times on average have you all had to change?

I had 2 junior doctors in the room, they were fine (in their junior capacity) however they looked nothing like doctors, rather large (to be nice) and I could see up the woman's tiny skirt, lucky her legs were that big they blocked the basic instinct shot! One of those where you don't want to look, but you do anyway.....about a dozen times.

That went down like a pair of Nuns knickers.

Dude, that's made laugh uncontrollably. :ROFLMAO:

I haven't used that type of med for depression, I assume that's what it's for, for a long time. When I did I do remember that it takes a while for any med of that type to reach a level in your body where it will be a help. Sometimes the cure can be as bad as the problem.

You're doing your research, that's good, it's important to know the effects and side effects. Hope it works out well for ya'.

Thanks mate.

Primarily it's for my anxiety, however it should help with the depression; it's allot of waiting around! Been told I'll probably need a higher dose again, but you got to wait 4 weeks to review it. Doc is quite keen to keep me away from benzo's for the sleep issue though.

My wife is on Cymbalta, it made her feel eratic for a couple of days, but once it settles she says its great. She is no longer tired all the time, can sleep through the night.

Her dosage was upped as she went along.

Good luck

Sertaline turned me into a Suicidal wreck...... I dont know why. Prozac does me well though, and benzos are the most helpful f*ckers in the world. Ive been addicted to Xanax before and the withdrawals SUCK and can actually kill you, so I'm VERY careful with the ones I take.

I now take;

Klonopin (Clonazepam) 1mg 2x daily for anxiety/hyperarousal (WORKS GREAT but be careful...)
Flurazepam 30mg 1x nightly for sleep (VERY helpful) but then again, be careful

As Jar once told me, and something I know through experience is with benzos, you WILL build a tolerance fairly quickly, and you wont feel the "benzo buzz" anymore. But the important thing to remember is that they are still working and to not increase the dose or abuse to feel a buzz again. Thats when it goes from use as prescribed, to abuse, and the start of addiction.... A very dark and shitty road, trust me. So just be careful with benzos and treat them with respect/a rational sense of fear, as you would a loaded firearm, and youll be good. Lose that respect and it will bit you in your ass. Trust me

Best of luck buddy,

Spc. Dave

Cheers guys.

One reason I don't want benzo's is because I'm just overcoming addictions, last thing i need is something that will give me buzz!

I hoping I'll get my appetite back soon too, eating is a challenge lately.

Cymbalta is a decent drug. I used for it for a while as it also has properties that reduce leg pain. With depression and anxiety, it does not do much but I was on low dosage. With leg pain, it did not do much either.

But I am shopping for something again and considering going back to Cymbalta. I am not using the VA so it is expensive despite the drug plan I am on. I do need something though. Lorazepam is light and is a benzo. I don;t want to go back to that. I use it sparingly.

The trouble with this getting to the point where you think you have it licked is realizing you don't and never will. I can be perfectly normal for a while. In fact, most people would not suspect anything even when I am having episodes of sleep deprivation. I am getting good at the anger but not the depression part.

The doc is really on my case though. She should be.

I did notice eating is a problem for me too now that you mentioned it. With the leg problem, exercise is a real hill to climb. I need a drill instructor. Never thought I would ever say that.

As is the case so much and I have no explanation why, I'm the odd man out on the benzos. The VA started giving me Xanax nearly all my time in college, to which I attribute my ability to earn my degree as it kept my anxiety down so I could study. If I remember right, I never got a "buzz" out of it, it just melted the anxiety away.

Then, the VA, mental cripples they are, made up a new rule and they cut me off. I didn't nearly die but I sure as hell wanted to. Then ensued a decades long fight with them to reinstate my benzos. They never did. It wasn't until the VA told me to hit the road, did I find an outstanding P-Doc that prescribed Clonazepam. Better than the Xanax. I get no buzz, oh yes, I'm sure I'm addicted but I'm no longer bouncing up to screaming anxiety and then straight down to suicidal depression.

I've been on them now well over a year, feel no need for a stronger dosage or more frequently.

Yes! It's addictive. No, it doesn't work for everybody and sometimes is dangerous for some people. So, out of my respect for my elders here, I don't recommend it to anyone. Just my experience with it. Be my luck, I survive a plane crash out in the middle of nowhere but die from benzo withdrawal.

Benzo's just scare me, I feel I'd abuse them; at the moment anyway. I'm happy to report that this latest med, is allot more considerate on my digestive system, I no longer have to tactically fart incase I injure someone ;)

Xanax was great for me. I started on .25 of a gram, the I upped it to .5 gram, before long I was take nearly 2 grams. I didn't need to, It was all psychological. I had to wean off them. They also make me really skitz.
Now they are in the cupboard for emergencies.

Yes, sweat, I will sweat in the snow.

And Fart, I think I have broken the odd chair or two. There is no tactical about it.
