Civilization V - Dummy Doo...

The manual helps heaps with all the shortcuts available to show resources, grid, crops, etc... slowly learning them.

Since picking it up on Saturday, Steam says I have racked up 25hrs already on it... DOH!

Yeah this game is retardedly high on the addiction scale and once you get your Civilization big enough, you can spend hours on just one turn.

I love the Civ games. My husband and I like to play together. However, he finally convinced me to play WOW with him on his private server. So, I guess it will be undead warlocks for a while before Civ V.

Just worked out how to correctly use the fishing boats and fish, whale, drill for oil on the ocean, etc... cool.

Yeah I was wondering about that, I made a worker boat but all I could do was sort of sail around and explore, couldn't land or put units on it so it kinda seemed pointless.

Yer... you put them on say the fish, whale or oil grid, then it will show another option to make it a fishing boat or oil platform. Obviously you also need the technologies for them to work.

I did the same thing... only worked it out last night. I wanted to slap myself.

Just bought the game, its downloading right now. Got mad after getting owned on Civilization 3...the british are hardcore, she is one mean lady. I doubt the queen will be any less stubborn on Civilization 5 but, if I'm going down I want it in style. Now if i could just get comcast to quit turning off my modem for long enough to download the game...geez.

I haven't really played since Call to Power (wow, old) but I do have Civ IV on this machine. I've been really into the Total War games lately. If you're into turn based strategy they're pretty awesome, plus they have real time battles if you choose not to auto-resolve conflicts.

That sounds pretty cool, there are some others that I recall that was good: Aliens vs. Predators for PS2 and liberation day for pc. They are both rts type games of course I think starcraft is the ultimate, still civilization is its own type of game really.

Well.... I just got to nuke my first city... it was impressive to say the least. I have all the cities against me now... the neutral ones that aren't against you in the game normally, because I have attacked so many to get their resources. I didn't want to pay them... so I just attacked them. So tip for later... don't attack the neutral cities, otherwise they collectively join together and attack you, asking every other nation for support by donating troops. So its how other nations, even friendly, can kick your arse without actually breaking friendship. Lesson learnt. :cautious:

Still got nukes and stealths though, so taking it all with a grain of salt...

Just wondering if this is a similar, though very up to date version of a board game called Risk.

I used to play it for hours when I and a few others were supposed to be college. Oh I was bad taking over the world in record time. :D :roflmao:

I love risk... Civ V is a bit more advanced than something like risk though, as Civ V is actually running a civilization, and you can win by culture, domination, science, time... and political. I think there the five from the top of my head.

I have risk, both board and on the iPad... love it as well.
