Gosh, yes, at least every hour as you say, sometimes even more than that. Feel as though all I ever get is interrupted fitful dozing and that weird semi conscious state that goes along with being halfway between sleep and awake.
Yes, I have constant flashbacks or nightmares at night. I wake at 1, 3, and then stay up most nights. My doctors mutters something about reading an insomnia book every time I ask for sleeping tablets, I really don't think he gets it.
I think it is the nature of the beast for a lot of us. The brain is trying to figure this all out and sleep is a good time for it to do so. It is exhausting, terrifying, unsettling, and so very frustrating. Do you keep a log of your dreams or are they too disturbing? There may be a pattern to them that will allow you a key to break them.
