Court Hearing

I haven't visited in a while. Busy with school and just getting through the days. This Thursday, I have my first court appearance for the charges being filed against the person that assaulted me. I know it's going to be a long drawn out process due to the fact that he is a juvenile. I'm nervous and scared. Especially since I have info that he has been acting out while adjudicated. I'm scared to face him, but I know I have to take a stand and fight for what I believe in, justice. Any thoughts in how to help me through these rough days leading to our first court hearing?

Contact the DA's office and ask for a victim advocate. Most of the time, they can be with you during the whole process and help get through it all.

Thank you theotherside! My assault is a case hard to explain in full. But I'm not standing up for myself, I am standing up for fellow co-workers as well.

Justmehere, I have already been in touch with the Victim Advocate's office, and she will be there. It's the thinking and preparing that I'm worried about.

I work in the system as a victim advocate and havibg been a victim myself, please kniw and exercise your rights as a victim. It varies state to state but I believe the more you know and what to expect, tge less scary it all is. Court hearings often drag on but it is very empowering to be there and give the Judge a face with the crime. The victim advocate should be able to advise you of the court proceedings and keep you in the loop on future hearings. You also have the right to know about any plea offers and ask for a no contact order. It takes courage and great strength to stand up for yourself. Be proud of yourself! ;)

shrinkingviolet- Luckily, I don't have to worry about a no contact order, he's behind bars. The Prosecutor said that deals will go through me. There's a lot more to this case, but I can't really give too much info because it's a complicated case.
