Current Weather

I hope things are ok @blackemerald1

Heatwave today. 36F (F as in F#cking degrees. Sorry but this bites) and cloudy. We raked leaves last Sunday and Monday we had a foot of snow dumped on us. It's been in the single digits already and we still have 36 days until it's officially winter.

Someone save me.

Thanks @LuckiLee & @VioletButterfly - I'm ok.

We've had a few scares but the weather is cooler where I am and the humidity is just a few notches above zero - so we have a few minutes grace before a fire can get out of control here. And everyone is on hyper mode about fire. The local fire station is being kept busy for sure atm.

The first serious heatwave is going to be 40 C., and due to arrive middle of next week.

So I'm getting prepared for that. I reckon that will be our first really big risk day for sure. And everyone around me seems to agree.

Some of our firefighting equipment and personnel are interstate right now fighting the fires that still burn out of control there. So I trust the authorities to know that right now we have sufficient resources if things turned nasty and I'm sure they will return before the heatwave does happen.

But yesterday and today were justy windy with gray skies, heavy, dark clouds full of much needed moisture hung around and then left, not destined for here obviously. No bloody rain. I sound obsessed & I think may be I am ..sigh...

The only way for it to be more monochromatic is if we were in snow instead of mist, and fog, and drizzle. White sky, white lake, black trees, wet asphalt reflecting flat black & glossy blinding. And a thousand crows fly home, appearing and disappearing, as they wing their way through the banks and drifts.

Miserable fawking weather, but Ansel Adams could frame it.

Salmon are swimming in the streets, again. :meh:

It’s less flooding, and more saturation point. When the ground starts squelching with every step in the autumn? Even 3 days without rain, in sunshine? The next return to even a wee drizzle, much less real rain, will see the fish taking shortcuts across the fields, and roads. The River doesn’t even have to overflow it’s banks, although that will mean thousands upon thousands of fish, for a few hundred to say “f*ck it” & cross overland. As many years as I’ve watched this happen, even walked out with a glass bottle to bonk dinner, it still just strikes me as wrong. Yo. Fish. One of us is in the wrong place. I suspect it’s me.

:hilarious: What’s reeeeeeeally fun, though? When the snow line drops, and the fields freeze, and the fish “ice skate” (read: propel themselves across the ice as if launched by a rocket). There’s just something very Muppets meet Tim Burton surreal about the whole experience. Silver bullets streaking across the ice at Mach2. It’s a strange world.
