Did - does anyone else have this?

I suspect it is totally normal to not know we are going in to dissociative trance states. Part of doing so means our brains partially switch off and and we loose track of time and space. So often maybe think everything is normal whist from the outside we have slowed down or stopped.

Other types of D are easier to identify once one knows what to look for. Not feeling like we are in our bodies and having the world around us distorted or not feeling emotions or pain or that parts of our body belong to us are easier to identify I think. I hate trance states.

How do you deal with disassociating if there are times you don't know you are doing it until another person tells you about it later? .
Spacegirl,
It would be good to hear back from you. Looking back it seems you don't mean the type of dissociating that others have responded with here and rather mean personality dissociation as you mentioned DID in your title. I don't have DID so can't comment but I imagine it must be very difficult to realise that a separate part of yourself has done things and without your knowledge. I hope your T can help you with this.

I get this often; especially at work. I will be in a meeting or in my office and next thing I know a co-worker is chuckling because I've been asked a question or they have been having a conversation with me and I have no idea what they said. I just laugh it off with them when it happens and let people think I'm a daydreamer. I know that I'm not in my body when this happens and as long as my co-workers don't find out I don't worry about it.

At home my family is used to me so they just think that's the way I am.
