Do You Believe In Horoscopes?

I remember the first time I've heard of it, I decided I'm totally a leo, we're disregarding everything, by their own logic they just wouldn't know it that well either. So terrible logic out there, but so much fun to be had.

I didn't, until I was a regional conference for a rather obscure job I used to do. We discovered that something like 13 of 16 of us there were Leos, and the other three were also fire signs. In my next, very different job there were two distinct clusters of birthdays as well.

So I think birthdate can have some influence on our career choices - that may not be for astrologic reasons, but it could be.

No I don't. Because they are written pretty broadly so most people can find a way to make it fit into their lives if they want to. I don't have anything against people who do believe in them though each to their own :)

I used to follow the horoscopes on break times with workmates...mainly for the entertainment it brought us. On the odd occasion, they were right but vague..so no, I've never believed.
Out of interest, I looked up Aries relationship with an Aries ( both mine and my partners starsigns) ....seems to be the opposite of how we are. Neither of us really have the strong characteristics that a fire sign has. Yes some are there to a degree, but not as dominant as an Aries should be.

the very best of us is connected to one another. you find something in a half-cut newspaper clipping about the sun and stars, it tells you you'd better toughen up today. today's gonna be hard. and it is hard. and you remember that. and you take it with you. someone on the other side of the world sat in their stuffy office with their starbucks coffee, paid nine bucks an hour to churn out this shit. and they wrote that. and you took it with you. it mattered right then. i dunno, the sun and stars. i just take meaning when it comes.

Hi Jess,
There was a guy (can't recall his name right now), who ran an analysis on Swiss court and insurance records, It was a sample size of several million individuals over a period of several years, so any result has high statistical confidence.

In terms of who got married, who got married to whom, who got divorced, and who got divorced from whom, who had more car accidents... the time of year they were born was highly significant.

You can speculate on why; daylight hours, types of food available, activity cycles etc during the last trimester of pregnancy and in the first few months after birth, is probably a pretty good area to start - the last trimester of gestation was highly found to be significant when studying those who were affected in utero and for the rest of their lives (and passed it on to their children and grand children) by the Dutch Hunger Winter...

You can speculate on the causations, the why s, but there is no speculation on the correllations, In Switzerland at least, for the periods analysed, the correllations are undisputably there.

Do I think it is down to the stars themselves?

No, the constellations in the sky at a particul;ar time of year have precessed several star signs out of phase over the three thousand or so years since the characteristics of the different personal characteristics were first written down - but the descriptions of those characteristics still hold up pretty well.

Do I think you can foretell the future from the stars?
If you can make it vague and woolly enough, some sucker will believe you were right ;)

Not really, however I fit my sign pretty well. My personal one for when I was born, with the sun, moon Venus location and all that, freakishly describes me to a Tee. Couldn't be farther from the truth for my husband, he is nothing like his sign or personal one.

From what I understand about it, it was developed before mankind understood that our planet was not the center of our solar system. In other words, it was designed upon a model of the solar system with earth at its central point. I find it difficult to believe in something that is based upon a false "truth". So I never took it seriously.

However, you make a good point about us being effected by more than just the moon. The planets probably do affect us some, but I doubt they do so more than the moon, which is much closer.
