That was lucky, @Congruency. I also stopped wind-up watches as well as digital watches, which had just come out when I was younger. What is a self-winding watch? I'm pretty sure I never tried one of those.

Anyway, by age 17, I finally gave up and came to terms with the fact that my life would be filled with moments of having to ask people for the time when I wasn't around a clock or couldn't find one.

Here's what I found online for the definition.

"An automatic or self-winding watch is a mechanical watch in which the mainspring is wound automatically as a result of the natural motion of the wearer to provide energy to run the watch, making manual winding unnecessary. A mechanical watch which is neither self-winding nor electrically driven is called a manual watch. Most mechanical watches manufactured today are self-winding."

I remember mine worked due to my natural motion of my body. Not once did it ever need winding.
