PerfectlyFlawed, I received EMDR and it went a long way to relieving my symptoms. It did not, however, cure me and you must be aware of its limitations. Hopefully it will enable you to function better and allow you to start the process of recovery. I wish you well with it.

Clan Destiny - thank you for the info. I shall look the book up.

Hey guys and gals,
I am a police officer in the middle of seeking a medical retirement for back/ neck injuries. It is an uphill battle to say the least. My department has abandoned me and I was recently diagnosed with PTSD/ depression in the middle of all this. My PTSD is majority duty related. I have been told that my department nor workers comp will cover my ptsd treatment and i am about to be without medical insurance due being out of leave. I have been on unpaid leave for past 2 months and my fmla will run out in three weeks. I am going to have to go to treatment for the ptsd very soon because i can' t deal with much more. Just looking for any suggestions and someone else that may have experienced any similar type situation.

Hey there, just wondeing if you are ex-military as well? Military benifits cover PTSD therapies well. If not, explain to your therapist what your situation is. I am so glad you are getting help. Most police officers do not. It makes me sad at the fact your fellow police officers are abandoning you. I wanted to let you know that you are not alone, many on this forum are here to support you.

Hi,

I have been Medically Retired from the Police for the past 5 years after only 4 years service. I loved my job, my old team. But I suddenly lost control of my mind. I walked away from a perfectly happy family. The police supported me for a year afterwards. As did my old Sarg while I was in hospital. But 5 years along I have a grip on life again. I still feel lost and alone. Reading this post made me realise I'm not alone.

I don't see or hear from my old team mates anymore. I even moved countries to look for a new way of life. I struggled to fit back in to society. Deep down, if I'm honest with my self I still don't feel I belong anywhere.

Hi Mart,
since joinging the forum my life has moved on in ways I did not expect. I have now found a loving, understanding partner and my life is improving in so many ways. It can still be hard at times but it shows things can get better.

You are certainly not alone and the support is there, often in unexpected places. I no longer have contact with my old colleagues but my best friend is an old school friend I hadn't seen in over 20 years. We bumped into each other again and get on famously.

Whatever you do, don't give up... It will be hellish at times but it's worth it in the long run. Good luck in your journey.

:)
