I don't have a Kobo Glo - I have a Kobo Touch. That one isn't designed for reading in the dark. I'm sorry I can't be of more help on that.

Prime-no, I just got a little kindle on saturday. It does have a keyboard built in. You just have to call it up. the 2nd icon on the left calls it up on mine.

safenow.

Yes, it has a keyboard and I know how to use it. It's just that it's tiresome. I'd prefer a touchscreen, since I'm used to that from my mobile phone...

Thank you, safenow.

Does anyone know if you can convert the Kindle format into another format (i.e. epub or pdf). Kobo Glo does support .mobi but does this mean you can transfer books bought for Kindle to your Kobo Glo?

Yes, do go tool around that Calibre site- I have a ton of books on my Kindle that my husband was able to convert from PDF and docs to Kindle friendly formats. PDF's show up but are a big, fat pain to read. There's another site, I think emule? Has free books.

Another way to lend is just to find someone who owns a Kindle, and send each other books- there's an option for it under ' Manage your Kindle ', wayyyyy at the bottom, in teeny print, on your Amazon account site. My mother has the same Kindle you do- I agree, calling up the keyboard really can be a pain, plus those ads seems silly and paying to have them removed is sillier! We bought her that one thinking it would be the simplest to use and were wrong. I personally think Amazon can 'live' without having Kindle owners read advertising every time they pick up the machine. Anyway, I have been able to lend books to my stepdaughter, and then Kindle returns them to you after 2 weeks, or they are supposed to.

I'm sorry the settings on yours do not support a brightness thingy ( That's technical jargon.... ). Maybe it's under 'contrast'?

Agreed on loving these things!

Thank goodness ads on the Kindles are not (yet) supported in Germany! It would drive me bonkers!!!

find someone who owns a Kindle, and send each other books

Can you do this with anyone (no matter where that person is located, i.e. in another part of town) who has a kindle? That would be so great! I have a friend who has one and loves reading the same type of books as I do!

Unfortunately no, there is no contrast change settings mode thingy (I'm learning lol), but the contrast is real good in daylight.

I'm glad you're happy with yours and you can exchange books and things. An e-book reader sure is nice to have! Then again, today I walked around my part of town and came across a bookshop. Didn't dare go in. I don't need bookstores anymore - yikes!:wideeyed:

Today I got the two lamps (well, one lamp (light panel) and one cover with a lamp included). I love the light panel, but it can not be clipped on but just slipped on, so to speak. It's perfectly fine for reading in an upright position, but I wouldn't dare dozing off with the Kindle and the lamp falling to the side. I have tried "shaking" the lamp off and it didn't come off, but it's fairly loose and I wouldn't trust it. Too bad, the light is excellent and adjustable, and it has a built-in battery that can be charged (3-5 hours) and used (10 hours at maximum light).

I didn't even open the cover/case with lamp. It looks cheap, which would be fine, but on the back there's a little compartment for the lamp and the lamp can be taken out by opening a button. I think that lid will last maybe two weeks. If you use the lamp a lot, there's no way this is going to last too long.

Well, then I got a message from Amazon today saying the Kindle Paperwhite can already be shipped now and I should enter my credit card information. Since I have a prepaid one now, I could do that. I'm definitely going to get it to have at least a look at and will talk to my dad meanwhile if he is okay with me returning the basic Kindle if the Paperwhite proves to be flawless with regards to blue and purple clouding and "black holes" on screen.

I did think about getting the original lighted cover sold by Amazon, but, hey 54 €??? It seems to be good, people are satisfied with it and like it a lot. Not one used one is for sale on ebay (my country). But the basic Kindle for 79 € (although not my money) and the cover for 54 € = 1 Paperwhite. And I do have a cover, just no light.

Also, yesterday I used the excuse of checking out e-book readers in stores to get some fresh air. Not as many people out as usual, phew. Anyway, really, they're all more or less the same. The Kobo (not Glo) is just as good as the basic Kindle from the reading experience in a well-lit room. I couldn't make out much difference. Maybe the display is lighter, but all in all the same. So, if that were a clip-on light panel, I would have loved to keep it, but it doesn't help using it and killing the light by falling asleep.

Why does it say if youre charging the little kindle to keep the USB cable attached but eject your Kindle from your computer? Is that because it works by wi fi or whatever you call the internet connection?

It's okay for reading sitting upright near a lamp but it's difficult for me to read as soon as there is no direct light.

I have a little light which clips onto my Kindle cover and shines onto the page. I never read in bed so the light there isn't an issue.
