So before I post pictures, I will provide the back story.
My co-worker was looking on the free section of Kijiji and mentioned that someone posted their 10 year old dog on there for free. Naturally that infuriated me for several reasons. A) Why was someone getting rid of such an old dog, B) Why were they using Kijiji, and C) Didn't they realize that by posting for free they could potentially be giving their dog out as a bait dog (for dog fights)?
So I called for two reasons, 1) I was angry at this person for posting such an ad, and 2) My heart was broken for this poor old girl. So I called the number, and I spoke with the lady giving away her dog. She told me about how her husband and her were getting divorced, and he said the dog was collateral damage and to put her down. The woman couldn't do that, but also couldn't keep her where she was going. She was devastated to give away her dog, but didn't want to put down such a sweet girl.
So I drove out to the country today to meet the dog. I fell in love with her, and brought her home with me this evening. She is the sweetest, most social, loving old dog ever. We went to Petsmart on our way home to see about getting her some weight management food (she is obese), and some new things. So we spent a good few hours with the manager at Petsmart walking around and getting this old girl the proper things to help her lose weight. We met every staff member at the store, pretty much every dog that walked in, and every person who walked through the front doors. Everyone was touched by the story, and the manager of the store was proud to tell it to anyone who would listen.
We will be going back frequently to the store to keep her social, get some exercise in the warmth (it is freezing cold so long walks outside aren't an option, only short ones). We go back tomorrow morning to get her nails trimmed.
So everyone, meet Chelsea. My newest addition, my stinky farter, and snore monster. I've only had her for 6 hours so far, and she has stolen my heart. She is that little extra I needed in my life to keep the suicidal thoughts at bay. I hope my T lets me bring her to sessions with me.
