It has taken me almost five years, but today I finally told the police about having been raped. It was not an official report, as in that they will start an active investigation. They did however record my statement and they told me that this will set some things in motion: they will search for more information about him and whether anyone else has reported him for something similar. In that last case, my statement could support their case.
The detectives listened to me and took me seriously. In spite of the fact that what happened was so long ago and that I have no proof to support my statement, they said they believed me and that I can come forward to make an official report if I want. That meant a lot to me, given that I have struggled so hard to accept that this wasn't my fault.
Right now I'm at home, exhausted, but glad that I finally found the courage to do this. Now I just have to think about whether I want to take the next step.
I am very grateful for all the great people on this forum who have helped me to come to this point. You are all amazing.
