This is how “research” is done at some schools

Totally behind students helping other students learn how to conduct research. But it kinda lends credibility to a study if they go a little bit further afield than their classmates for the data!!

But seriously, now they make it sound like just any ole stressor that gives someone “enough” stress on some “impact event scale” can give you ptsd.

Uhm, no.

No wonder the general public is so misinformed about ptsd. The so called psychologically “educated” can’t even get it right!

There is no “stress scale” even involved with diagnosing ptsd. It’s a matter of having enough symptoms or not. I’ve taken dissociation tests, but those are for dissociative disorders.

Plus.. the conclusion is "subsequent ptsd diagnoses" and "future distress" - like, not exactly slapping them on right now saying it was traumatic. Just distressing, but wasn't it for everyone though?

The high level of event-related distress is concerning because elevated symptoms of event-related stress are predictive of future distress and subsequent PTSD diagnoses.

It’s entirely possible to get through a 4 year undergrad / bachelors of science in Psych... without ever once studying trauma, much less a specific disorder resulting from trauma (PTSD).

Yes, I’m aware that most psych majors learn nothing about trauma. My point was that these specific researchers are putting it out there that they’re “trauma informed” when they’ve actually got it very, very wrong.

It is frightening to think about their futures and how they are going to handle the major stress that just living can throw at you. Perhaps teaching people to cope would be a better use of money.

This article gave me PTSD. :( just google government grants. You will be appalled at the money wasted on nonsense.
