For the love of chickens

Oh man, I hope Mini will be okay, what a weird thing. At least none were hurt.

MrM must be struttin' around that place.

Can't wait to see the photos DG. Hopefully, the snow is gone at your place so things can get a little easier.

I am worried about Mini! He stays in the back, so I started enticing hens to hang out with him. He's much happier with the hens. I'm going to have to fence off MrM, since he is really harassing Mini. Roosters can be mean. There are 2 other roosters back there and nobody bothers them. Hmm.

I finally got use of my new computer that my son is on most of the time, lol, so I was able to download and edit the pictures. I need my own computer that's newer than 2009. Both my Mac Pro and Macbook Pro were given to me, and are from 2009. Anyway, here goes:

This is MrM now, the proud rooster PICT1141 (1).webp, standing on the muddy porch.

PICT1180 (2).webpThis is his wild child, a boy, who doesn't want to be touched.

I can't find the latest Mini photos, they are on the other computer, but here is his really, really cute chick who loves to be held. She is a girl.

I made the chicks a new house out of a saltines box, and put a soft fuzzy sock in there. They love to sleep in it. When chicks are new, they fall asleep and lay themselves out flat, so we call them flat babies. It is so cute. By the third day they are too round to do it, they sleep with their head down and their tails up.

I just put 12 eggs in the incubator. I should have someone coming to pick up 3 chickens today, but he didn't text like he said he would. I'll have to try again on craigslist.

Out of the 12 eggs in the incubator, all 12 are fertile. Yay! I think. I will keep the best and sell the rest, since I have enough. I have 4 beautiful gold laced Polish hens, and a gold laced rooster, so I see gold laced fertile eggs in my future. They will sell for about 25 a dozen on Craigslist. It will keep me in chicken feed.

My young, gold laced rooster, Sticky, named because he was covered with the sticky egg membrane and had to be washed several times after he hatched, started crowing. I put a crow collar on him loosely, so he could get used to it and he fell over and died. All the hens were very concerned, and so he got up and moved to a different place and died there. That way, they hens that didn't see him before could see him. He did this one more time, then hid in the corner until one of the hens got the collar off. Then he was up and running around again. Weirdo.

I had a young rooster pass out after a hen pecked him on the head from behind. He went into shock so we had to bring him in the warm house and hold him with a warm towel wrapped around him until he realized he wasn't dead. I've never seen a hen do this, only roosters.
