For the love of chickens

My beautiful partridge brahma hen Monkey broke her leg or pelvis. I picked her up and felt the bones move. She is now in our chicken hospital. I hate to see her suffer. We give her aspirin water 4 times a day with a syringe. She won't eat feed or mash, but she did eat corn. The chicken hospital is a large dog crate with bedding and food and water. It's in the living room, and we keep it really clean.

Monkey hatched alone since none of the other eggs in her group hatched. For the first 24 hours I hooked up a carry sling and kept her close to my skin. She would sleep on my neck under my hair when I went to bed. She stuck her tiny beak into my ear canal and said "PEEP". Wow, that was an amazingly loud sound. The next day I took a chick who was a week old from a hen with 6 chicks and put a soft, stuffed monkey in the brooder with both chicks. Monkey loved that stuffed monkey, and so her name. Now she is back in the house, and I have to find that stuffed monkey to put in her hospital crate.

Monkey is doing a lot better today. She is eating and drinking on her own. I keep her aspirin water fresh, and she is moving in the crate. She ate corn this morning, the whole bowl, so that's a really good sign.

Monkey continues to improve, and I found her stuffed monkey and she was sleeping on it this morning. Sweet Monkey. She's moving around a lot, and tried to give herself a dirt bath in her crate, which is another good sign. I don't want to pick her up, and possible break the knitting bone, and she doesn't seem to want to come out of the chicken hospital, so we are good for now.

The batch of MrM and Mini's chicks hatched. One beautiful black one I am keeping! Seven so far, three days early, and two are hatching today, one day early. ?????????

Yes @MrMoonlight! MrM has 6 chicks so far, I think, not counting his older chicks. Mini has 3 in this bunch I think. I will call the frizzled one from the first batch Libra. A wonderful name for a stunning chick! I'll take a picture of Libra today so you can see what he/she looks like! Really stunning! And it is a great thing to hatch chickens and see new life.

So another chick hatched this morning, on hatching day, bringing the total to 9 hatched. There is one egg left, it was progressing well before, but there is no chirping. I hope it is alive.
