I am thankful for the upcoming new year for all the new possibilities in life. Yet I am fearful ptsd will always rob me of life. I am still triggered from the armed robbery and childhood events. Any suggestions
Continue to be thankful. Being able to see what you're both thankful and grateful for can do wonders. When you lose sight of that, you can lose more of yourself than you'll ever know.
My only suggestion is the one I depend on very heavily: therapy! With a good therapist you can change anything about yourself. It is hard, but the good things in life usually are.
Appreciate your inner and outer beauty, and practice enjoying you, just as you are. As I've healed, similar events really have started being in the past; joy starts to happen.
I suggest breaking it down into different aspects and dealing with specifics. Put like this, your question is too big and too general to be able to answer. Recovering from PTSD, we don't deal with "PTSD" as a whole but with the symptoms and details, one step at a time.
I think the biggest thing for me has been identifying specific triggers (also from an armed robbery). I concentrate on my breathing and on remaining calm especially when I can't walk away from the trigger. I agree with Hashi that you have to it into smaller manageable pieces. Some days the same thing will cause a more or less violent reaction. After almost 13 years I have become less sensitive to some triggers and remain very sensitive to others. I wish you peace in the coming year.
