I watched a segment on Sixty Minutes last night about new treatment for post traumatic stress. The point of the whole thing was there are now new applications for suffering vets.

They showed an in-patient facility where the guys were exposed to things like Cognative Process Therapy. And went on to say how as many as seventy percent were helped.

Damn it. Who writes this crap. I went through C.P.T. and my therapist told me at the start that 50% of those who start never finish. Of those who do 50% find little benefit. That's a hell of a lot less than 70%.

What does it take for them to get it. The process requires therapy, meds., forums like this one, family support, persistance, courage and faith by those who have been stripped of all the faith they ever had.

Can't they find someone who actually knows what they're talking about???????????

Sounds like some crap the VA is selling. It's the VA placebo. " You'll be all better in just a little while" Back slaps, big smiles, thumbs up.

"Helped" is a relative term Like being able to leave the house. Still got all the other shit.

It seems like PTSD is now the 'cause' to be involved in. When these kinds of things occur everyone who has any kind of idea jumps on the bandwagon.

Luckily, I have a great psychologist. She never misleads me in any way and always tells me the truth about things straight up. There should be more like her in the VA system but sadly there isn't.

In any kind of treatment there will always be numbers like SD mentioned. Treatment is hard. It's important to find one that fits you and you can deal with. There isn't nor will there ever be a 'one fits all' kind of thing.

For me, I don't watch much on that stuff just because it gets me riled up. Like somebody is going to 'cure' me. Dealing with PTSD is a daily grind. Some days being better than others. You have to get to a point where you can accept that or at least that's how I see it. You also have to work at it if you want to re-gain some kind of life for yourself. None of that is easy or ever will be.

Promoting a possible 'cure' or something like getting your previous life back is just misleading. It's not the only thing like that. Just think of all the money that's made in the weight loss industry. Like anything truly worthwhile in this life it takes work, real work.

Jar,

"Dealing with PTSD is a daily grind". That's an excellent way to look at it. I never thought of it that way.

Making it the #1 priority, trying things to change your perspective through out the day, forcing yourself to make a move when you don't feel like doing shit, watching and listening to the things around you to try to find some connction, THAT'S A GRIND!!!!!

Thank you my Brother. That gives me a new perspective that may keep me going when I'm down.

Yes !!!!.....Perceptions that can change in an instant, are in deed a daily grind......Will try and work on that, but not sure how???

Thanks Jar & SD

You have to kind of make it up as you go along. Figure out what you need to when it comes. Good to be prepared by ya' gotta' be flexible. That can get harder with time.
