Has anyone found that their sleep issues improved when becoming "religious"?

And by "religious", I mean having faith in a something greater than yourself... i.e. Christianity, Islam, Unitarian Universalism (for agnostics/atheists), Judaism, etc.

Just wondering if anyone has found being more "religious" has eased their fears and helped their PTSD (in general)...

Nope.

But I sleep extraordinarily well when there is absolutely nothing I can do about a situation. Case in point; spinning around an anchor, lights dark (meaning no radio), in a storm. Everything in me just relaxes, as I’ve already done everything I can do &/or that needs doing, and the outcome is wholly out of my hands. Some of my best sleep ever. :D

So it makes sense that if someone feels that way about the rest of life because of their religion? That they’d sleep just fine, too.

I’m just more of a trust in god and do something kind of person.

No. I tried that and in my personal experience it was too hard to convince myself of something I knew wasn't true. I've dabbled in all sorts of religion over the course of my life and deep down it just feels like someone's trying to sell me something in every one even Buddhism - the least religious of the religions. New age shit rubs me the wrong way too.

In a word "yes" but not in any prescribed, dogmatic, group-think kind of religious, I'm more of a gnostic. I'll risk that sounding pretentious, to attempt to be vaguely clear.

Yup. Just had a difficult night. There are times that I am terrified that something or someone is wanting to smother me/kill me. I have learned to force myself awake enough to pray and ask God to intervene and protect me as I sleep. He does and the “attacks” stop.

Some Unitarian Universalists are agnostics or atheists. Most aren't. The ones who are atheists still don't believe in a higher power.

In my UU place of worship, we have folks from many God/higher power/energy believing like Muslims, Christians of different types, Baha’i, Jewish, Wicca, Quakers, Shamanism, Scientology and many more.
People of all religions looking for positive community are welcome.
