Having an MRI - What to Expect?

Hi Mina

I recieved my appointment to see specialist today. NHS must be on a melt down because they are sending me to a private hospital. I know they do use them for overflow never thought they would send me though.

Fame at last lol

How is your knee, now hope its feeling better.

I'm glad you will get to see someone, Amethist! Hopefully they are able to get you an accurate diagnosis quickly. Keep us posted...

PT is going quite well, and I have a recheck with the doc this coming Friday. I've been slacking off some on my exercises, but I don't think I need to explain to you guys how that whole triggered + lack of sleep thing = no energy

Just got back from my knee recheck with the orthopaedist. Bloodwork doesn't show signs of inflammation or rheumatism, so that's good. However, I'm still not allowed to run for another month  which is terribly frustrating. Running is something that really helps when I'm having a meltdown or angry. It will probably be late October before I'm back doing my usual 3-5 miles, as I have to start back very slowly once I'm allowed. I am trying to keep it in perspective that it's "just" another month, but honestly, I feel like going and getting shitfaced (and I hardly ever drink).

Hang in there Mina, take it day by day, and the month will soon pass. Hopefully, once fully fit again, you will enjoy the challenge of getting your fitness/running levels back to where they were before all this. In the mean time is there something else you can do instead of getting shit faced  Swimming perhaps? Or maybe something more relaxing such as yoga or pilates? Core strength or upper body exercises? Or zombie shooting computer games to help with the frustration :dontknow:

Regards, CB

Zombie shooting :rofl:That's brilliant.

Good to here you can maybe get back to running soon Mina. If you cannot run could you do power walking instead or would that be too much for you knee to cope with ? Just an idea.

I can't wait to find out what's going on with my knee. Its like walking with a sponge or a soft balloon where my knee should be some days.

Oh well just have to wait and see what the doctor orders.

Hi Mina

How are going along, is your knee getting stronger now. Should not be too long now before you start to run again.

I finally saw a specialist on Thursday evening, yes I said evening. 8.10 to be exact, what a place to go rather posh bit more like upmarket hotel than a hospital, no problem if this is how the other half lives I will do posh any day.

My daughter came with me, we had decided to make a bit of an evening out, you know the sort of thing, coffee after work, carers meeting then McDonald's for tea. You could say we pushed the boat out just a bit lol.

We arrived at the hospital not know what to expect as not been there before, did not even know it was there tucked away in a side road not far from normal NHS hospital. We walked in complete with McDonald's drink cups in hand, the receptionist directed us to the first floor. The lifts all mirrored glass and chrome, highly polished and no grubby paw prints anywhere, fully carpeted corridors and well manicured young receptionist to greet us at the appropriate reception there. She was lovely and directed me back down to x ray where the radiologist was waiting for me. X rays taken and sent via PC link to specialist back up on first floor.

On arrival back there the specialist was waiting for me in the corridor, service or what. Him seen back to reception to book MRI, this could not be done until next day as the lady who did the appointments had JUST gone home. No problem I was told, they will call yo tomorrow to arrange a time to suit you, to suit me yea right. Al this was done in less than 30 minutes no waiting for hours in smell crowded corridors with screaming kids every where.

Friday arrives, phone call taken and arrangements made for best day and time for me first week in September.

Not long ago I told a friend I wanted looking after for a change, thank you very much this will suit me fine, as all treatment for my knee now as far as I know is going to be done here. My daughter could not believe it, carpets everywhere cups for fresh brewed coffee and being treated with respect and like complete royalty as she put it.

So I think maybe I can do posh for a while LOL. Thought this would make you smile as I am usually the one who has to wait months or appointments are at wrong times for me to get to.

Take care of your knee. If you want to swap places any time just let me know I'm sure we can pull it off if we try hard enough.

Amethist

Wow, that sounds like a lovely experience, Amethist! You deserve posh, that's for sure!

Hi Mina

I had my MRI today, can still manage posh . My husband suggested I take AC/DC or some other outrages music, but I settled for some pf my own sad music as he calls it. I took David Cassidy with me  he did me fine.

I go back in 2 weeks to see the specialist, my daughter is going with me because she want to do posh again .

I hope your knee is now better than when we last mentioned it.

Amethist

Glad to hear you'll be getting some results soon! And also that your MRI went well. I think it'd be hard to lay still listening to AC/DC...I have way too much of an urge to sing along and move around whenever I listen to them! Good thing the posh was bearable...

I saw my PT again yesterday. Although I haven't worked out much for the last several weeks (triggers and such), he's quite pleased with my alignment. The next couple weeks should see me getting back to a regular workout schedule.

Thanks for the update and well wishes :Hug_emoticon: Hope to hear your results soon!

I'm debating if I'm going to go for an MRI once I get back home or not... I talked to my doctor yesterday, and he said that when I get back I should probably get an MRI of my shoulder... I think I may try letting him do some injections first though and try to do the PT exercises I was given to do the last time I hurt it, and get more acupuncture, and hope that all of that works out... I'm hesitating on the MRI because really if anything shows up, my doctor is probably going to recommend surgery, and that's not something I'm mentally ready for at this point... plus, my chiropractor doesn't live in my area any more, and having her with me was the only way that I was able to hold still the last time they did an MRI, and I can't think of anyone else who lives near me and who would have the time to go with me who I do trust enough. I know I should just suck it up and do it so that I can go back to running without having to stop because I can't tolerate the pain in my shoulder, but I don't know if I can sit still during the MRI :(
