Hearing Things When Tired But Not Sleepy

I know that some people may hear or see things just as they're about to fall asleep, like on the verge of it.. But I hear and see things just when I'm tired.

I don't get too nervous when I hear things. Sometimes I can tell it's not real, other times I can't. But I'll hear a little something (like a train passing by when I'm just sitting in my room) and I'll think, "Oh, I guess I'm feeling a bit tired. I should prepare to sleep soon."

Does anyone else ever get this? Just when you feel tired, not when you're in bed waiting for sleep to come.

Me too. Mostly auditory (musical?) hallucinations. Also happens on the rare occasions I 'relax.' I try to shrug it off, but often i find it unnerving. There's nothing harmful about hearing a few bars of repetitive music, but it's not exactly thrilling to realize i'm hallucinating again. A sudden voice in is less welcome, though.

Me: I'm tired.
Two seconds later: Voice: "You're Tired."
Me: Not anymore! Thanks, brain.

It's very common for me to hear random chatter that fades in then out. Sometimes a crowd, sometimes one person reading a list, or I'll hear a friend's voice. But I also hear cars, trains, sometimes I'll hear things more clearly that don't fade out like a bottle dropping, blanket or pillow hitting the floor, stairs creaking, etc.

might some of that be hypervigilance ?

Maybe but I don't live anywhere near the train and other stuff it doesn't make sense. I'd have my friend sitting next to me and I'd ask if she heard or saw what I did and she doesn't.

I do get hyper vigilant though. My friend has noted that I am more aware of things that she's not, especially sounds.

I used to get that when I had insomnia - not sleepy but yeah, super tired. It was chattering, like I was sat in the middle of a busy cafe, not really able to pick out the words. Sometimes like whispering. I was also glad to see musical stuff isn't just me! I used to hear really kind of eerie, threatening orchestral stuff that was kinda fractal in that it would spin off crazily but it had a pattern to it. Sometimes jazz. Very, very tuneless jazz, like the highbrow stuff I can't get my head around.

I get chatter as well! I sometimes will also hear words or lines that I've heard somewhere else whether it be from a familiar person, t.v. show, etc. I've also heard things that my friend would never say but it's in her voice.

I do have sleeping issues, but I don't think it's so bad as insomnia. I have a hard time falling asleep sometimes, but not all nights I wake up in the middle of the night. Most of the time I can fall back asleep easily.
