I have a host of mental health issues, major depressive disorder and anxiety being the worst but I also have PTSD. On 3 seperate occasions in my life, 3 different men kicked in my door trying to get in and hurt me. One was successful.

I think there is something more but have yet to discuss with therapist. My younger brother had cancer when I was 19 and 23. My parents couldn't handle it and left all responsibilities to me. Then he relapsed I was his bone marrow donor. cannot even watch a commercial that shows a "cancer kid" without crying. Is it possible to develop PTSD from witnessing and basically experiencing a very serious illness of an only sibling? Just really curious. He wasn't supposed to live.

Welcome to the forum. :)

It might be possible but I would talk to a therapist. There a lot of supportive people here but really none of us can really answer that question as we are not professionals.

I hope when you are ready you will join in around the forum.

Wishing you peace.

Hello TheBigSister, I'm wondering if the discussion here might help you with your question:

I know that you say your brother survived, but if he was not expected to then perhaps some of these emotions would apply? Just a thought... I'm presuming that your diagnosis came from the attacks rather than the illness - sorry to presume!

Hi TheBigSister,

Welcome to the PTSD Forum! :)

PTSD is complicated and many traumas can be involved. Having no emotional support and believing that your brother was going to die is extremely hard and no young person should have to bare that responsibility alone. It would be good to bring this up with your therapist as I am sure there are many things to be worked through.

I also hope you find the information and support here helpful as you work on healing.

Wishing you the best.

Debbie
