This question is open for anyone to reply, but I’m curious if anyone with DID specifically has any suggestions on helping an alter part access more time.
One of my parts, who historically was present daily (from age of about 3 until 34), has gone mostly dormant across the last 3-ish years. We believe this is for 2 reasons:
1- after carrying us forward in life for so long, she’s tired & burned out, and
2- the level of emotional repression needed for her to hold the front is no longer possible (at least not for long periods of time) thus, she ends up kicked from the front and stuck “in the void” as we call it, due to the breakdown of amnesiac barriers between parts.
We are currently trying to find ways to expose her to “teaspoon” levels of emotions, but it’s hard because she is not present frequently anymore and often when she does front she tends to automatically revert into old behavior patterns and doesn’t actually take the time to intentionally work on feeling emotions, instead gets distracted with all the other things she wants to do. She came around today and shared with t that she is pretty sad and feeling desperate…she believes her life is passing her by. And as a whole person, we also feel like we are unable to access her skillset (she’s historically been the primary working part and we have been barely keeping our head above water in the work department without her).
Any suggestions or ideas for creative problem solving are much appreciated! We are struggling on figuring out what to do… there’s so few resources for specific problems like this for DID. Any advice is welcome!!!!
