I served in the South African military an thereafter as contractor in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Congo, Angola etc. My symptoms started several years ago. It has deteriorated to the point that my wife and I seperated. My drinking and self destructive behaviour have taken over my life. I struggle to work with concentration issues etc. I am a remote site paramedic but I have stopped working as I am endangering poeples lives. I have not formally been diagnosed but all the signs and symptoms are there. Im basically looking for coping tools to keep functioning untill I am in a position to attend coinseling. Thanks

You have two huge things in your favor right now. You realize you have serious problems, and you're looking for help. That's the beginning of your road back to a meaningful life.

Progress will be slow, and at times frustrating. But, don't beat yourself up when the pieces don't fit. THEY WILL.

Thanks for the warm welcome. It is really appreciated. My personal life seems to be fubar at this stage but I have made a promise to my kids and almost ex wife to seek help and work at resolving my issues. Thanks again for the welcome.

I don't know why everything that kills me makes me feel alive... But self destruction is a hard thing to step back from, for that reason & others. Harder still, to see it for what it is, instead of how good it feels in the moment. And you've done that bit already. Well on your way to keeping those promises.
