I suggest you get a letter from your old CO. At least from one Officer to talk about your character while you served, Yes you F'ed up and smoked pot. If your conduct was good other than that you should be able to get a upgrade. This may take some time, but getting the VA to diagnose you with PTSD, and some buddy statements will help you a lot. I myself saw many good Marines make the same mistake you have made. I hate the Zero tolerance rule the Marine Corps has, they should have offered you help not kick you out! By the way Your still a Marine in my book! Another thing that may help a lot is get your Congressman involved.... You would be surprised how the system can work for you when you have a Politician on your side!

Welcome to the forum, a friend who works at rikers island was one to help pick up the peices to 9/11, all my friends got out safely, but one.
I have prisoner of war or concentration camp c-ptsd, civilian though.
I was in hampton fla. when 9/11 happened, and could not leave cnn. I was up for maybe four days, waiting to see if everyone I knew was okay. I'm extremely protective and the phones were so jammed I couldn't get thru to who I needed to for some time.
At the time a very helpful guy, Sarge, was in ny, I got him on the phone first, phew, I am forever grateful he was not affected. He has since passed, but he had given me tools that I would never have found on my own with my c-ptsd.
Hope you find those that truly understand from experience.
