So, as I was typing in this thread title, I noticed our book club did this series in 2012. Maybe there are some fans around.
I've been a huge fan of the His Dark Materials series since I was about 9. I think any HDM fan asks themselves the question, what would my daemon be?
For those who aren't fans, daemons are sort of like the Jungian anima/animus, the Roman genius/Greek daemon, and they are not unlike the Muslin djinn. They are a compliment to you, not an opposite, but like the opposite piece of a puzzle. They are always the opposite gender from you (and let's go with gender, not sex), and they manifest as a specific animal that assumedly takes the shape of an animal that somehow represents your personality.
I asked my partner (who has never read the series but has suffered through me bringing it up a lot) what his daemon would be, and he didn't hesitate. He said a howler monkey or a capuchin. When I asked what he thought mine might be, he said an owl.
I like the idea of an owl. I might be an owl. I've considered that before, especially a barn owl. I think it could also be a crow--good with language, intimate social structure, resourceful, not a predator.
What do you think your daemon might be?
