General His Support Dog Died

His best mate, his baby girl, his constant companion, his digger. Lost to a brown snake at just 2 years old.

We did everything we could to save her, but the poor little bugger had no chance.

To describe him as devastated doesn't come close. He's wracked with sobs, keening, begging for her to come back to him. And there is not a single thing I can do to help him.

Hugs to you both...the loss of support dogs is beyond devastating, especially so young! I'm so sorry you both have to go through this difficult time.

So sorry! :( The loss of a support animal is not easy! As a sufferer and now a new supporter myself I'd suggest that he start working on the grief of the loss and perhaps begin looking for replacement service dog too.

So very sorry. I know this heart break, more than once and recent.

Lost my best friend of 11 years just a few weeks ago. A 2 week undiagnosed and then choosing to let her go and not suffer. I went looking for a new pal within days. Some (family) think I should grieve and live without a beating loving heart near. Bella told me to go on an love another rescue - I held her in my arms heart to heart and eyes engaged. No other four furred is Bella.

10 days and Mocha is a rescue that is helping me survive, and she is herself emerging from being in a kennel with 12 sibs, while 9 died. One year old. Some say I should not move on so quickly. I have not moved on in that sense, but opened up to life is too short love all you can. Can not do with people, but dogs Woof.

I'm heartbroken. She may have been his world but she was my little dog too and I miss her terribly. I'm doubly heartbroken for him. Watching him suffer so.

@Changeling - we have spoken to the breeder. There is a litter of pups from the same sire born this morning. We don't yet know if any of them are girls (but there were seven so far when we were talking so fingers crossed at least one of them is a girl). Although he has a nine month waiting list the breeder has said he will let us have one of these pups if we would like one. My vet is wrestling with desperately wanting another dog and feeling disloyal to his best mate. I hope he decides to get a pup. :cry:

The best way to honor his fallen mate is to find another 4 legged friend to help him on his path.

@desiderata310 - exactly my thoughts. That little dog was so full of love and the joy of life that refusing to get another dog would not be honouring her at all.
