My therapist thinks I eat quickly in order to avoid feelings. This happens even when I'm eating comfort food in a measured healthy way. Most my friends notice. I'm always done first whenever we eat together. Trying to learn to slow myself down and I get more anxious, even when I really like the food.

I am one of the slowest eaters I know.

I don't like eating in front of, or around people.

I have had so many dental issues over the years, I developed a complex of paranoia around breaking something while eating.

Being a slow eater, I find it helps with digestion. After years of this, I find I get indigestion from eating fast, nor can I eat very much before I get full.

Normally, I will just put a show on and watch, while playing a game or something on the laptop. While picking away at the plate of food on my lap. Eventually I'll finish it.

On average, a full meal:
  • 2 chicken breasts
  • 1 cup mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables
1-2 hours to eat.

I remember when I was first diagnosed with PTSD, sitting at table and staring at amount of food though was less than a serving. At one point I started crying and that is when flashbacks based around food began. Eating still causes anxiety, but thankfully I'm getting better at grounding when flashbacks start.

I eat pretty quickly too, depending on the situation. I went for a couple of years not being able to eat anything without getting sick, so now I eat quickly in case my body decides to reject food again and i have to stop completely. I'm also an emotional eater, so can sit down and eat a whole pint of ice cream without even tasting it. We also tend to be a little money-short in the family, so when there's food I like, I'll scarf that stuff! I'm working on being more mindful when I eat, and when I go out with my friends I tend to not eat so quickly since we make each other spit food at odd times with just a single flippant remark...good times....
